Donald Trump for the first time has surpassed President Biden in a national general election poll from NBC News.

The former president eked out a slim lead over his successor — 46% to 44% — and strikingly eclipsed the incumbent among younger voters, the poll released Sunday found.

Among younger voters ages 18 to 34, Trump emerged on top 46% to 42% over Biden. For context, younger voters broke for Biden by around 26 points in the 2020 election.

Only 31% of young voters approve of Biden’s job performance, down starkly from 46% in September, the poll shows.

A staggering 70% of younger voters said they disapproved of Biden’s handling of the conflict, per the poll.

Among Democrats, 51% felt that Israel has been too aggressive, while 27% believed the Jewish state’s retaliatory actions were justified, the survey showed.

NBC is not alone in pegging Biden down against Trump in a 2024 matchup.

A flurry of polls both nationally and in battleground states also had Trump beating Biden in a general election. Trump — the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination — was up 1.6 percentage points in the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate of polling.

I am shocked by these polls. Is it possible Americans will vote Trump in 2024?

Israel-Palestine won't be an issue in next year's election. There are a million new cycles from now until then, and people's attention spans get shorter every year. Who knows what will move the needle next year.

This is a great point! We’re so driven by the cycles and led. Ukraine came along and covid disappeared, Israel-Palestine and now very little on Ukraine. We’ll be on to some new cause de jour complete with its own social media bio pic/icon/flag to show your allegiance.

Whatever comes next, Biden will bungle it too. At this point, I’m counting on Trump’s incompetence and refusal to act sane, not any competence on Biden’s part.

Why do people keep citing these polls a year out?

Next Summer, Trump will be in the middle of 6 differerent criminal court proceedings.

And while the youth may disapprove of some of Biden's handling of Israel, they will care more about abortion rights, protection from guns and the general effery that the GOP wants to impose on the country.

People will get the government they deserve. I never understood the point of all this bellyaching.

The 2024 election will have the highest turnout percentage of all time. Everyone in America (and the world) will be 100% locked in by Election Day and Biden will win.

Biden will do the right thing for the country by backing out of the 2024 to allow a more capable candidate to run (something Trump would never do). We will then see the true story of how very unpopular Trump is outside of his 35% base as the polls accurately project a lopsided defeat for Trump.

No he won't. He'll run again even though voters are screaming that they don't want him

We'll see. Biden still has a fighting chance to beat Trump if he does run but it should eventually be clear to him, his advisors, and most of the Dem party that a different Dem candidate would have provide a much higher likelihood of beating Trump.

Someone didn't learn from 2016 polls that polls are not always accurate.

Polls have also shown that the incumbent POTUS can be behind and still win.

+1

For the incumbent president to lose, you’d need a *major* economic, foreign policy or domestic crisis. And probably a combination of at least two. GDP is strong, the unemployment rate is low and inflation is trending downward. Nobody has to wear masks at the grocery store any more. And say what you will about Ukraine and Israel, but not one American soldier has died in those conflicts. From that vantage point, Biden is going to be very hard to beat.
