Almost done with DD first season w Brave and I have to admit, not very happy with the product here. DD doesn’t understand the formation, what she’s supposed to do on the field and now they’re playing guest players who have never practiced once with the team. Admittedly, this is our first season on the club and in ecnl but most games the team doesn’t even get a shot on goal. The coach who was acclaimed to be a development focused coach spends most of the game sitting in a chair on his phone and doesn’t say one word during any game. Practices are tailored towards helping the 08 team which he says to the players has a chance at the playoffs so it’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make doesn’t help with morale or motivation. I can’t imagine may players will stick around for this show next season. Not sure what to expect here but it’s clearly not good. Just a rant and warning for others. |
Even the greatest chef in the world cannot make possum roadkill into filet mignon |
Interesting, I have an 09 DD, who will be looking at new clubs this spring. Sorry to hear these misfortunes regarding this team. Honestly, would now look to have her play with the 08 team. |
The coach previously ran the VYS NCSL travel teams. You only have to look at the success of those teams over the years to know what you should have expected. |
He also ran the 2008’s, 10’s and 11’s who are performing at a decent level or better. Give up your grudge with the club. |
Maybe not the kindest way to have said but accurate. Would your daughter have made another ECNL team? What about the other players? It’s a team lacking in talent that is having a hard time building a foundation because of all the losing. Hopefully they can get a core to stick around and build off of. |
Not affiliated with Brave but please do tell of any of his high performing teams over the past years at VYS. |
OP here. The roadkill comment is a bit harsh as there is talent on the team. There’s just no chance to show it. Team plays a 4-5-1 with 5 central midfielders. No one wide of the hash marks on offense. Half the team plays direct long ball to the one striker who if she’s lucky to get the ball is surrounded by 4 defenders. Coach says never to pass back so then the striker tries to take on the 4 defenders and ultimately loses the ball. The other half of the team tries to play possession passing. But with 5 central midfielders they are all passing to players standing 10 feet from each other. On defense, when the opponent builds out of the back through their full back, there’s no wide players in the offense or midfield. So the 5 central midfielders and our defensive full back all look at each other to figure out who’s supposed to step up. Every game and every time it’s a different player or any many cases no one.
My point is that the season is almost over and DD or team should be coached on basic things like what do we do when we have the ball, who is supposed to guard players on the other team. During games give players instructions on how to adjust. Apparently this team had some success last year. We arrived to learn that literally everyone except for 2-3 players from the team last year left because of coaching. What am I missing here? |
Oh yea. The icing is that the coach recently canceled a tournament we were supposed to go to in Dec but he’s going with other age groups. no email. No communication. Just removed it from TeamSnap. |
The 2010’s have performed well going back to the vys years and then made the playoffs last year at u13 largely with Vys players. |
Coach is very dedicated to sport and challenges players to master different styles and formations. |
OP, how does it compare to your old club? Can you go back? |
That sounds unprofessional and unfair to the players. Have you reached out to the club's overall Director of Coaching? |
lol. This must be the coach… very clear coaching instructions here. I can’t see what the problem is. |
0-9 w -25 gd. Master different styles and formations? Maybe the talent isn’t there but losing 0-4 to Union in this age group means there is no mastering on anything. I would expect to see consistency in formation, style and play until they are good enough to adjust for the competition. |
