Alternative Main for Thanksgiving

Just me and 2 teens this year. I hate turkey and while I've done roast chicken or game hens in years past, I'm wanting to do something more interesting than just a roast bird. So DCUM, what would you suggest?

We eat all meats. No allergies or food sensitivity to deal with. Not necessarily looking for just another meat on a plate dish though (e.g. ham).

Are you still planning on the traditional sides? If you are, then pretty much a ham or steak or pork tenderloin or even fish makes the most sense.

If not, you could choose another theme entirely, like a feast of Mexican food or two kinds of lasagna with salad, garlic bread, etc.

Or just do tons of sides and no main dish at all. Do whatever, there are no rules!

Duck has a completely different taste. It's the red meat poultry. Please do take note of how to roast them: they have a layer of fat under the skin, being aquatic, that needs to be melted off slowly. Then you keep roasting for crispy skin.

I'm not a fan of pork, and if you don't want a ham, I'd do a beef Wellington. I LOVE beef Wellington, and make one every Christmas.

Consult your teens. See what they vote for. I had a friend whose family voted every year because no one liked turkey. I think brisket was often the winner. Lots of good side with that too.

If you want to do duck easily, get the pre-cooked half ducks at Costco. They are heat and eat and delicious!

I would do all sides and appetizers.

For people who want meat-- bacon wrapped thingies and sausage in the stuffing.

Last year we did individual beef wellingtons. It took work but was a fun family cooking project.

Honey Baked Ham. Any leftovers, put in the freezer for later (individualized portions, so you can make a sandwhich, cu lt up and roadt with brussel sprouts, throw into an omlette). While you are there, pick up some ham bones to make soup over the winter!!

A friend with Greek parents once served lamb and garlic mashed potatoes because it's not a feast without lamb and garlic mashed potatoes are delicious with lamb. The guests brought a million vegetable sides.

It was delicious

I also dislike turkey. In past years we have done salmon (just because we like it) and lobster (historically accurate, but I'd do just tails next time rather than mess with the whole thing).

I have a relative who does skirt steak every year.
