Hello All - My kid is in fifth grade (currently in level III AAP ) at " Level IV center school "I have been trying for level IV AAP since 2nd grade ,
COGAt - 99% Sol - Advance Pass Iready -Reading - 97%,Math - 93% . Have all 4's in Progress report I spoke to her teacher during Parent Teacher Conference and she has mentioned that she completes most of her work and she is already providing her with some advanced sheets . I have been hearing ,parents requesting for Level IV Placements and also were succcessful. I was wondering if parents can request ? Is there been a process in place ? |
At Center school, only level 4 kids can be in aap classroom. The principal placement can only happen non-center school. |
So you’ve gone through 3 referral processes, and your kid has not been found eligible. This isn’t going to happen. They do not require Full-time Cluster services. |
I have few kids gone through four referral process and went through I dont see the point in how many referral process . Each year the kid is progressing and have done lot of enrichment programs outside the school . Also I mentioned that there has been Placement happening in our school thats how I came to know about the process, but the parents are not completely transparent about the process so I just know there is been process in place . |
With scores and grades like that, how has your child not already been accepted? |
+1 |
Thats why Im totally frustrated ,her teachers have given comments in GBRS that she is advanced but when I check with AART she says it all committe's decision .I researched and came to know that there is principal placement , so wanted to crack it out. Honestly my kid is losing interest in regular classroom she always complains that she needs more challenging work that why her teacher is providing some advanced sheets in her current classroom . |
Please check out the link below where the parent have mentioned the same thing what Im talking . https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1123171.page#24697731 Exactly the same thing - I have seen many of my friends kids who have been placed through this process thats how I came to know and then I researched here and I could see few others have also encountered the same. |
If a kid who has scored 93-99th percentile with straight 4s isn't placed in aap, then something is seriously broken. I'd be pissed. Of course your child is losing interest. This is insane. |
Ask the principal. At many center schools, there is no principal placement but some principals at some center schools do. |
I would be concerned about Advanced Math at this point. I wouldn't say anything is broken - doing well in elementary school is good, not a bad thing. |
Adding to it my kid just "won 1st place in science olympiad " that was held last week at langley high school last saturday |
Get a wisc test done. Include it in the AAP package. |
Have you parent referred again this year ?
I would talk to the principal and ask about the principal placement that you claim to be aware of. The parents may not be transparent but the school should be. Will you be willing to move your child this school year? I would think they may have missed a lot. |
At our school the only difference with AAP is the math. The math is accelerated, but it’s not deeper or more challenging. |
