Neighbor's new shed

Anonymous
We've been out of town, and just got back to find that our next door neighbors built a 11' tall and probably 10' deep/wide shed from our fence. They have a history of being inconsiderate (I was the OP of a thread where neighbors planted a tree expected to be over 100' tall right next to the property line which is 15' from our house. According to the county we live in, sheds under 12' tall are required to be at least 5' from the property line. Is it even worth saying anything to them? I know that reporting them to the county would just make them less neighborly than they already are.

And if you were in town, you'd complain about the noise re: your neighbor's new shed construction. It's a shed. Who cares?

Nothing you can do. Our nights did this in MoCo and we called permitting on them for several issues and permitting said to take it to court even though they issued a permit for one thing.

OP here - my first sentence should have said "a foot from our fence". Aka right next to it. 10' deep/wide is the size of the shed.

I can't imagine there is any meaningful difference to you whether the shed is 1 foot from your fence or 5 feet from it. Move on.

It's about the principle, not the shed.

+1. You want to complain so that they have to move it 4 feet over. Forget it.

Well don't do things on principle - only do it if it really matters

This is our situation and it's a problem with repairs and other things. Then they want to access our property to do repairs on their shed and no!

They didn't violate any rules - that's why it's 11' tall instead of 12'.

Sorry, you probably don't have any recourse.

They did. The rule for sheds between 8.5' and 12' is 5' setback.

Doing things on principle is fine, and for your other point, it matters to her, so it matters. Lastly, she is in the right, so that matters.
OP-feel free to report the violation.

What rules are they violating? Looks like they are more than 5' away from the property line as required. I am confused.

I replied to my original post a few minutes later - the first sentence should have said "a foot from our fence".

You sound like an extremely painful neighbor to live with. Are you a HOA inspector?
