Why I have zero sympathy for all of the financial whining Americans do - avg. new car sales price over $46k

So much whining about not having enough money and all of the entitlement mentality rampant these days with respect to student loans etc., yet look at the way Americans live:

Americans have no problems stupidly dumping $45k+ into a depreciating asset like a dumb car. On top of that, they are now getting hosed even more on that depreciating asset with rising operating costs due to increasing insurance rates. I mean, how stupid can you be with money and then have the gall to complain about not being able to afford your bills? And many households rack up even more debt by owning 2 cars.

Americans need a big slice of humble pie and need to learn to live within their means. Driving cars $40-50k+ or more is really stupid. But in this country, it's all about image and keeping up the Joneses. Then complain about your student loans etc. after you refuse to live within your means. Sorry, I have very little sympathy for all of the whining Americans do these days.

We have over 320M Americans. Pro Tip: we do not all think/act alike.

That's what a new car costs. A $45-50K car isn't a luxury vehicle like it was in the past. Used car prices have escalated as well.

“Let them ride bikes”

OP, are you an urbanist/YIMBY? For a car-free society? You must love safe bike lanes and efficient transit and affordable housing near jobs and transportation? No? Oh, you’re just whining.

There are plenty of cars under $30k still, but you just HAVE to own a stupidly sized SUV, pickup truck, or swanky sedan now don't you?

Then you complain about not saving for college and probably demand student loan forgiveness. Take a dose of humble pie and drive a Honda Civic.

The fact that cars cost that much is exactly why I have sympathy for all the financial whining that people do. People need cars (outside of some parts of DC, it is a true necessity) and they are really expensive. That happened within the past few years, too. We have had real wage growth recently, for the first time in decades (!), which is good, but not enough to keep up with car prices.

Excuses excuses.

Hondas, Kias, Hyundai, even Ford models all under $30k, even many options under $25k.

But keep on buying your stupid SUVs and then complaining about your student loans and rising car insurance rates. You're the clown choosing to blow so much money on a depreciating asset with rising operating costs. Then you complain the rest of society should be paying the rest of your bills like the college debt you chose to take out.

You and the typical dumb middle class American lifestyle make me sick.

A car is table stakes to be able to get a job and survive. The vast majority of Americans would prefer not to shell $45k on a car or $200k on college. They are captive to the system.

This is what happens when small, affordable and fuel efficient cars disappear from the market. The bottom of the market is being pushed into used vehicles or into upmarket vehicles. Its why loan lengths are increasing as well.

People are stretching themselves more for vehicles than they have in the past, and its not sustainable.

Unironically, CAFE bears a lot of the blame.

So drive a $23k Honda Civic, genius.

All I hear are excuses. Gotta keep up with those Joneses now don't ya? Can't have a simple car to go from point A to point B like a civic. You just gotta have the leather seats, infotainment center, sun roof, upgraded rims, and driver assist options before you pay your student loans, right?

No, it's something else that makes you sick.

It's probably going to take you a long time to figure out what it is, though.

First of all, I’m doing the thing you want, I drive a used 2022 (bought this year) Hyundai hybrid for $27K.
And the people I know with student loans are riding bikes.

This doesn’t change the facts about supply chains, price gouging and inflation.

The fact that new car prices have ballooned so high is exactly why I have sympathy for Americans concerned about finances.

Remember "cash for clunkers?" That was the beginning of the rise in prices. The price of used cars skyrocketed after that ridiculous program.

Democrats really don't care about their policies and the effect they have on the financial well-being of the citizens. That has become abundantly clear.
