Why I have zero sympathy for all of the financial whining Americans do - avg. new car sales price over $46k

Now we have to hike and eat beef-a-roni

Thanks Biden supporters! When does the draft start!

brand new civic starts at 24k.

no one needs a fancier car

it has all the tech, and more, than an average person needs

Yes, and just try to get a new civic out the door at a dealership for <$27K. Please report back.

There are a ton..obviously tax, tags, etc will add to the price but that's with any purchase.

A new car for under 30k is not hard to find. Stop being stupid.

What is shown on the website as the starting price, and what the out the door price is (before taxes and tags) are two different numbers. Half of those starting prices are unattainable as car manufacturers are making less base model cars these days.

You can literally buy the cars from the dealer website for below 27k. tax and tags are irrelevant.

You can easily drive off the lot with a Mazda, Kia, or Hyundai for under $30k. Of course you’ll probably have 100000 excuses for why you don’t want to buy one of those cars instead before you’ll ever admit you’re trying to keep up with the Jonses, you care about your image, and you want to spend more on stupid bells and whistles.

Have you driven a newer Civic with leather interior? They are actually so nice inside and zippy. Felt just as roomy as the CRV. Easy to park, don't have to worry about driving into bollards or toddlers.

Never look at Averages, look at the Median.

I drive a 2006 Toyota Corolla. I paid $9K for it 14 years ago. With the BLS inflation calculator, that is $13K today. I just did a search on Kelly Blue Book for cars between $10K and $15K. There was exactly one result. One.

We just purchased a 2024 Honda HRV Sport (mid trim package) including the all weather mats, wheel locks and mud flaps for $31.5 out the door. Includes two years of maintenance. It has many safety features (blind spot, front collission, lane keeping assist and others. We were looking at a 4 year old CRV with 60k+ miles but for a few thousand more we could buy new and have the latest in safety features and hopefully relatively low out of pocket maintenance costs.

This is a good deal. What dealer? Financing?

3.9% financing for 36 months. Paid the sticker price. We somewhat lucked out as we were there for used cars and then I saw the HRV sitting there and asked if it was available. They said it was a preorder and the buyer backed out. They did say if i wanted to order a car i would pay the regular sticker price.

I just got a Civic for 29k. It’s an EX, which is the nicer trim. I didn’t want the EX, but it’s all they had and my Toyota, with 240k miles on it was, dead. This was a few months ago and inventory was scarce- no Toyotas and very few Hondas. It was a sellers market.

Back to the Civic, while I didn’t want or need the EX, it’s actually, for a Civic, a fun car. It is peppy (has a turbo), drives and handles great, and looks good. It’s my commuter car, so for its purpose, works great.

OP is a dweeb.

Not only does average mean 50% of new cars sold went for less than 47k, it also misses that plenty of cars sold were used.

In addition, many new cars are sold for business fleets and rentals. And, by looking at only the average and not the mean, the price of high priced ultra luxury vehicles and sole proprietorship trucks can skew the price since some of these are in the mid-6 figures.

But yeah, blame the guy who’s just trying to get his kids to school and go to work.

GTFO.
