Wearing pajama pants to school

Anonymous
Is this a thing? My DS (7th grade) came downstairs this morning and I asked, “why aren’t you dressed?” And he said that a lot of kids wear their pj bottoms to school. He’s done it at home in the past, and I’ve seen maybe a couple of kids wear them over shorts before an athletic game/sporting event, but to school? Is this a thing?

Yes, it’s a thing. I don’t love it but in the grand scheme of things it’s no big deal.

Did you grow up in this country? This has been a thing since I was in high school in 2001-2005.

Maybe it’s a thing but no I wouldn’t let my kid wear them.

They are warm and soft and comfortable, and most are really nice looking so why not, what is the problem.

Definitely a thing.

This was a thing in the 90s too, but I wouldn’t let my kids do it. Especially now that there are so many comfy “real” pants available.

No problem, just asking. It seems kind of sloppy and I was just checking to see how commonplace it is. He ended up wearing sweatpants instead, but I will keep an open mind. Funny thing is he’s usually clamoring to wear shorts when it’s over 60 degrees and it’s going to be 70 today. Plus, he had sports this afternoon so pjs don’t seem conducive to that.

I was in HS well before the 2000s so forgive me for not being on top of this trend 😀

Same. Im sure they have athletic pants they could scrounge that are equally comfortable. Thought I don’t love those being worn to school either, I’ll take it over pj pants. I also see (middle/high school) kids going to school in slippers and with full size blankets.

Not happening in my house. Nor are they wearing them to the grocery store, Target, etc. Come on, people. Parent your kids.

I don’t allow them with my kids and haven’t seen too many kids wear it at their school. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal though, I still prefer it to crop tops.

Buy some joggers.

Agree that I don't love it but better than crop tops and booty shorts.
