I am not trying to start anything but as campaign season picks up into high gear and voters begin to pay more attention, I wanted to see what DCUM was thinking about how the 2023 elections will go in Northern VA.
I live in Loudoun (Leesburg) and plan on pulling the lever for both parties depending on the office/candidate. I plan on reelecting my county supervisor Kristen Umstattd (she's wonderful, and a great voice of reason IMO) and the incumbent sheriff Chapman. Bob Anderson will get my vote for CA (Biberaj seems well-intentioned but ends up destroying everything in her way, she doesn't deserve to be reelected IMO). Everyone in my neighborhood seems to be voting like our family but we live in a fairly moderate/swingy area of town so I wanted to see what others are hearing/voting for in other parts of the region. Our neighborhood precinct voted for Biden by 10 points in 2020 and for Youngkin by 5 points in 2021, so I live in a swingy part of NoVA. Who are you/who are your neighbors voting for? |
| I live in Ashburn and my entire family is voting straight ticket Republican for local offices after voting straight Democrat in 2019. I hate Trump but the current crop of people running Loudoun have shown that they DO NOT deserve to be reelected. Especially after that insane tax scandal that funded super expensive vacations for them. |
| Most people in Northern VA will vote to protect women’s rights, LGBTQ, and democracy. |
Same. Randall doubling down on the BS and Biberaj tweeting at 2am about how she should have the right to prosecute the rape victim's father is insane. If they were moderate, low-profile Democrats they would cakewalk into reelection yet they continue to say/do everything possible to make it easier for the Republicans to win. If I was a committed Dem activist out there I would be so mad that the Dem candidates seem to make everyone mad and are always consumed in scandal. |
No thank you, the noticeable decline of the area continues and the local Democrats either outright ignore it or embrace it. If they start behaving like they did even 7-8 years ago, they would have my vote. I vote DEM on the presidential/federal level currently but the local NoVA dems need a big wake up call. |
Are you paying attention to what’s happening in red states right now? The only reason that isn’t happening in VA today is because the Ds have a very narrow lead in the Senate. We don’t want any of the red state nonsense here. |
| Nova. Voting straight republican! |
Yeah some red states are crap holes and should elect Dems as a wake up call, agreed. The LOCAL Nova dems are blatantly incompetent and have presided over a decline in the schools, increase in crime and overall everything being worse than it was 4 years prior. VA was controlled by Republicans for a long time until 2019, I have not seen things markedly improve since Democrats cemented complete control of Nova. Traffic is just as bad, crime is worse, and the schools continue to sputter. Why should our local elected officials not face accountability for this? |
At the state level, we definitely shouldn’t elect Rs. There is too much at risk. Locally, it depends. Have we even seen an I/D candidate who isn’t MAGA? |
| Voting straight ticket R to prevent NoVa from becoming MoCo |
| Voting for Democrats for state offices and for both Democrats and GOP candidates for local offices. Not a fan of the Democrats on the FCPS school board (such a bunch of flakes and hypocrites) and hoping we don’t end up with another 12-0 board with no diversity of views. |
Same, I'm voting R for school board and county supervisor (Dranesville in Fairfax). For delegate/senator, I plan on voting Dem. The local Dems are unhinged and need to be shaken up. The local dems used to be known for their competence and good governance, then 2019 happened and a bunch of fools were elected. |
| The election results are going to be interesting for sure. There will be places where the Republican was assumed to be competitive while getting blown out by the Dem and vice versa. |

I'm in Ashburn and will vote for Suhas Subramanyam. I probably would've voted for him anyway but he went door to door in my neighborhood and I was very impressed with him.
I absolutely will not vote for Chapman. He's rotten to the core. Still undecided on school board candidates (both our district and the at-large seat.) |
Agreed. Although Chapman will prob get my vote (Buckley is just such an awful candidate). Mike Turner seems fine but Tumay Harding is really nice and her story for getting in the race in inspiring. Mahedavi is awful on the school board and is downright mean. Griffiths is impressive. She has my vote. |
