If you're concerned, keep your kids home next week.

They just quarantined a whole class of K kids at our school because the teacher is sick with COVID, so yes, this is what we're doing.

My kid just returned to school after being out because the teacher had Covid. My takeaway was that despite the teacher having Covid, none of the not yet fully vaxxed students in the class tested positive.

Good, and that's the way it should be. The most risky part of the day is unmasked lunch but presumably the teacher doesn't eat with the students. Masks work guys.

Teachers are behaving just as irresponsibly as parents, unfortunately. Expect a lot of whole class shutdowns after the new year.

You mean, like going to weddings, having Thanksgiving dinner, visiting children in college dorms or parents in nursing homes, that kind of thing?

Bingo. Let's be fair here, if those are irresponsible behaviors for students attending school, then they are for teachers too, even more so because the teacher getting sick sends everyone home.

Another covid letter from DC's principal. We get the letter every day now.

Maybe you're talking about a different MCPS? The MCPS for this forum is the Montgomery County, Maryland, Public Schools.

Yes, the same one I am talking about. The "reopeners" who brainwashed their kids to protest with signs on Rockville Pike, the same ones who constantly tweet, email, give public comments to the BOE about all the learning their kids will lose on a 1/2 day. Those are the ones.

Right, let’s have all the teachers fired and you can teach your kids.

There were a handful of them. If you wanted virtual you had the option. You choose in person knowing this could happen so deal with it.

There is zero distancing, little cleaning and everything is back to normal. It’s not just lunch.

Please provide one example of where MCPS actually did what those people wanted.

I do care about kids. And I think they should be able to be in school safely. I wish their parents were prioritizing school over all their parties, gatherings, concerts, etc. so schools can safely continue to be in person. I get that I can’t dictate the priorities of others but I’m just so disappointed that many of those who care so much about keeping school open are making additional risky/reckless choices outside of school that actually put that in jeopardy and also jeopardize the safety of our community at large. The selfishness has reached an all-time high.

Yup. You can't.

Get vaccinated, get boostered, wear a good mask, keep the schools open.

At this point, is it really parties, travel, gatherings, and concerts that are driving surges? I don’t think it is, this virus has shown that it surges periodically at different times in different places regardless of people’s behavior. I know it makes people feel like they have some control by saying oh it’s these irresponsible people attending holiday parties, concerts, etc., but that is not what is actually driving this surge.

Um, yes, it actually is these places. Ppl I know in real life who got Covid recently: wedding, wedding, art Basel, basketball practice, maskless office environment, thanksgiving dinner. Plus congregate settings like dorms and nursing homes.

Maybe the nursing home residents and college students should move back in with their families for a while until things get better.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you don’t have a parent in a nursing home. The reason people are there is because they cannot be adequately cared for at home by family members who are not health care professionals.

We did it with dementia for several years. It is hard but when they cannot be left alone and need 24-7 care and cannot be left alone, a nursing home is the only option. Our state Medicaid sucks and does not pay for day care or an aid. So a nursing home is the only option.

So, why can’t the state and county share the data outside the dashboard?

No one knows. They won't say.

Pretty typical MCPS. This is why they pay consultants $1000 per day for PR services. The easier solution would just be transparency but they seem incapable of starting from a posture of honesty. And thus trust is eroded.

The COVID reporting is a state problem due to a cyberattack.
