In fact, you could probably search this board for discussions about Woodward and Silver Creek. Discussing BOE activities etc |
So you're assertion is that the process should simply take longer? And Woodward is a lot different situation- what we have today is a nearly finished brand new building and a crumbling one. Not the same scenario. |
The process needs to be collaborative and obtain feedback. That’s what makes MCPS great. I don’t know how long that takes but I can tell from these posts that Wootton families don’t think that is happening here. |
MCPS is failing a lot of our kids. Wootton is not the only issue in this plan. |
We were never asked what our students need or want, especially with courses. |
This is the point. MCPS has presented copious amounts of enrollment data to show there isn’t a need for a 27th school. Wootton walkers keep pointing to a single new development in the community and the Rockville growth plan that weren’t fully taken into account and claiming MCPS is using flawed data. It doesn’t matter how many times they explain their data, their process, the reasons why they do/don’t incorporate certain developments - people keep calling it “flawed” without presenting any new evidence to make their case. So it’s not surprising they don’t see any merit in continuing to engage. |
Wootton parent here - the process has sucked and there are 100% things I’d like to see MCPS do above and beyond what they’ve done. But it’s equally clear at this point there’s a super vocal group who are never going to feel satisfied with it unless MCPS gives them what they want. And MCPS can’t give them what they want because there aren’t enough students or money. |
The assertion that they are not obtaining feedback makes me chuckle. There have been multiple hearings with many many people sharing feedback, as well as websites, petitions, and email campaigns. There is a difference between hearing feedback and acquiescing to a certain portion of that feedback. |
Like what? |
| If all of this is true, then why not go through the process of closing Wootton, following state law etc? |
Even if that means a delay. |
If all of what is true? And even if this is a closure (which it isn't) there is no appropriate process that hasn't already happened, or will continue to happen. |
It's much more efficient to relocate one school than to close one old one and open one new one. |
| Good government is measured, deliberative and collaborative. |
Then call it what it is. A school closure and follow process (whatever that may be). Let’s do this right. Of course, that will mean more meetings and more work, but that’s not really the standard here. |
