He said, “Dads push us to take risks. Moms put the training wheels on our bikes. We need moms. But not in the military, especially in combat units.” https://apnews.com/article/pete-hegseth-background-defense-secretary-confirmation-hearing-e160e10c86385a8beff110d9190fb34e |
He also said this: “I’m straight up just saying we should not have women in combat roles. It hasn’t made us more effective. Hasn’t made us more lethal. Has made fighting more complicated,” he said in a podcast hosted by Shawn Ryan on Nov. 7. Women have a place in the military, he said, just not in special operations, artillery, infantry and armor units. In his book, he said women have performed well in dangerous support roles during war, but “women in the infantry — women in combat on purpose — is another story.” He adds, “women cannot physically meet the same standards as men.” Asked about the issue on the “Megyn Kelly Show” in early December, Hegseth said he cares only that military standards are maintained. Women serve in combat, he said, and, “if we have the right standard and women meet that standard, roger. Let’s go.” Questioned aggressively about his stance on women in combat by senators Tuesday, Hegseth said he supports women in the military but wants to review military standards to make sure they are not lowered to accommodate women. He's absolutely correct about this. His objection is to women in COMBAT roles. |
BS. You need to read what those men endured. For YEARS. |
+1 |
I really don't think you want to have a contest between what men have had to endure and what women have had to endure. I don't know that that is going to be a fair contest to the men. |
That’s a clown question. Do you read the relationship forum? How many men can’t handle any domestic tasks or a child fur 3 hours in a Saturday. Women run circles around men mentally because they are the ones to endure hardships in war, famine, etc. People look at Eve and think she was weak, but she was an allegory for how women are tough because they endure childbirth. They are the ones to endure pain. Women could have handled it. I also don’t think it’s fair to say that because men rape women that we should remove women. |
I'm a woman. Nothing you listed comes remotely close to what was done to those prisoners for years. If I provided a description, it would get deleted. |
You need to read about Vietnam and "The Hanoi Hilton." |
DP but AGAIN, women have endured horrors at the hands of men for all of human history. |
+1 and continue to endure. https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vTFikAP6MXDCJjWzgMIOvpsT1ji-HwO-rLEvNE8e-cfCGh0YHoZluIG5TEsmwFub7MzIDfh0XgvcWL8/pub |
Do you really not know that there were some women who were prisons of war. Do some research before posting asinine and offensive nonsense. Start with Eleanore Arden Vietti. |
Of course, you can find a few women who were POWS and survived or died in captivity. I don't think most female war fighters could withstand year after year the physical tortures dreamed up by their captors. |
I finally watched the entire hearing, not just news clips. I don’t like when the news curates narratives.
I am uneasy with his flip-flop on his stand on women in combat and his lack of experience in managing such a large organization with budgets and personnel. I forget which senator it was but he seemed open-minded and to me, he seemed to try to be unbiased. He was a Dem and name started with a T, I believe. He asked good questions and actually had a meaningful conversation with Hedgseth. However, the senator from Hawaii, Hirono, she was awful. He will be voted in, although if I were a senator, I would vote against him. My entire takeaway is it how absolutely hypocritical, two faced, slimy and untrustworthy every single senator and politician is. I have a very low opinion of them all. |
Keep pushing that boulder up the hill as you move the goalpost. You went from "women could not withstand" as in all women to " "you can find a few women who were POW"., when presented with information contrary to your original position. You do not debate or engage in conversation in good faith. Untrustworthy, you are PP and typical. |
Not one of the PP in this conversations but I think it’s crazy that folks think women can’t endure. Right now in the world are women enduring, mutilation, burning of villages, domestic violence, etc. Throughout history they been burned at the stake, been beat, berated, rape, faced chemical acid attacks, etc. They have and continue to endure everything thrown at them while still managing to build coalitions to fight for humanity, build up community, and teach the young. Women enduring isn’t and never has been a problem. It’s the fact that they do so and still move forward that scares so many. |
