I woke up last night to someone walking around downstairs with shoes on at 4:45am, so woke my husband to check. He found my 15 yr old son hanging out with a 14 yr old girl he is friends with in our basement. At the moment, the girl was downstairs and my son was in kitchen getting water, snacks.
The story is she was returning my daughter’s shoes and had just arrived. The shoe mix up is true. They had gotten mixed up with hers the evening before when I let him have friends over a few hours, but there was no reason for a middle of the night exchange! My son is losing his phone for a few days, and grounded, but I’m concerned this Freshman girl was out at all all hours. She is probably a mile away and must have walked! We would have called her parents, driven her home but she ran out! I got her # from my son’s phone and confirmed she is ok. Should I try to let her parents know or just worry about my own kid? |
| Yes of course!!! |
| Absolutely, I’d sure as hell want to know! |
| Oh I would 100% want to know if my teen was walking out alone in the middle of the night. This is a very real danger her parents should know about. |
| Please let her parents know. I have a daughter, I would want to know. |
| This somewhat happened to us. My son snuck a girl in. They had sex. They were caught. She ubered home. I don’t give a F about that girl. She can figure out how to sneak into my house then she can figure out how to get home. |
| Yes. I would hope that if the situation were reversed, the parents would tell me. |
Nice. Cretin. |
Was she 14?? |
I’ll add- we had a situation a few weeks ago where DS had two friends spend the night. They snuck out and went down the street to a park to drink. I called the parents of his two friends and they were grateful to me for telling them. |

He probably went and picked her up or met her halfway. Why even mention the shoes? Ridiculous.
My daughter’ and her friends were doing that sort of thing at that age. Some of the worst ones were the ones with the toughest parents. |
| I would not tell her parents. But I probably would have talked to her that night. |
Treat others how you want to be treated. What a disgusting way to treat a teenager. |
I would have, but she ran out. |
Yeah, shoes were true but just a cover. We are not super strict. He had a small party on Friday night, but kids had to leave at 11:30. |
