Winter break vacation idea

Anonymous
We are looking for a great winter break vacation. Kids are in 5th, 7th and 8th grade.

We prefer warm weather but it doesn’t have to be.

Once in a lifetime trip ideas welcome

Prefer to keep under $30k but we can be flexible for something particularly good.

Maldives? Just went there, and it’s like paradise. Might be a bit late to be booking for this winter break, however.

Ecuador. Go to the Galapagos Islands (smallest boat for the longest time that you can afford) and the rain forest (Google eco-lodges - there are several amazing ones).

Vietnam & Cambodia. We did the National Geographic family adventure last winter and it was fabulous.

Absolute paradise, agreed!! Though I’d recommend to wait until kids can (and want to) scuba dive. The real paradise is underwater!

Check where you can get cheap international flights - or maybe miles on way there and buy them on the way home?

Might be late to book a 2 bd unit for prime weeks….for that price…

- Try patina Maldives or como

- Look at Oman and safari (Serengeti) combo?

$30k won’t go very far for 7-10 nights that time of year plus airfare for 5…

Maybe Panama and carribean?

There are no cheap flights for winter break. I couldn’t even believe what I was seeing for regular degular schmegular domestic flights for thanksgiving week.

PP. The resort we stayed in had snorkeling off the beach, which was great because we could just walk in and see amazing variety of wildlife (including a wayward shark, and sea turtles). I went scuba diving where they essentially hold your hand and you do nothing beyond not panicking; it was incredible and I’m going to learn how to. I know that they have an age cutoff, but it’s something like 10. There was a dive family on the boat with us, and the younger kid snorkeled with one parent while the other dove with the older kid.
