Let's just say you have a $150k salary in DC:
- After taxes, your net pay is $98,826 - After rent ($2k p/month) you're at $74,826 - After Utility (~$110) & Wifi ($54.99) you're at $72,826 - After car & health insurance you're at $60,826 - After car payments, you're at $57,226 - after food $800 a month $47,626 - after ordering out $300 a month $44206 - after eating out(2x week) $240 a month $41326 - buying new clothes $200 a month $38926 - Nexflix, Hulu etc… $200 a month $36526 - vacation twice a year $3000. $33526 - gambling and entertainment. 6000yr $27526z - miscellaneous. 500 month 6000 year.$21000 Tell me again how we are rich????? |
| Only saving $1700 a months it’s pretty much living by paycheck |
| $500 a month on "gambling and entertainment" on top of eating out twice a week, streaming services and vacation?? That's excessive. |
Ok but now do it again with a salary of $70k (much more of the national average) and see where you get. The federal minimum wage barely buys you a dozen eggs these days. So yeah, $150k is rich. Gambling, eating out and vacations mean you have extra money to spend. |
|
Ok, but....gambling? Oh right, it's And entertainment at $500/month?
Life is a series of choices. The choices you make define the person you are. Complaining about not being rich on a good salary while gambling 500/mo and people will just roll their eyes at you (while you're also eating out and getting delivery). Save $500 in a 529. |
| Do people really need to buy $200 worth of clothes every month? I think I shop maybe once every 2 years for clothes. |
| You seriously spend 200 a month on clothes? That's crazy. Shop consignment or do a small capsule wardrobe. And before you say this includes shoes, you don't need more than 4-5 pairs. |
| You are spending a ton on entertainment and wants (vacation, gambling, misc, eating out and order in). Take a close look at that total number and you’ll see where all you money is going. |
| If you're barely making it why are you spending 300 a month ordering out. Crazy. Pack lunch every day. Order out as a treat no more than twice a month |
wasting so much money. how can one person spend 1350 per month (16000 per year) and another 16000 a year on vacation, entertainment?? That's 32000 right there. it's not your earning, it's your spending dummy. |
Ok, we are a family of 4 living in DC on that income, and we feel completely fine. We vacation, the kids have extra curriculars, we pay for our house emergency expenses. So many things on things on your list are unnecessary: 1. Buy a car in cash with what you can afford, keep it for 15+years 2. Eating out and ordering out both seem excessive with that grocery bill. 3. New clothes -- $200 per month? So a few new pieces every single month? Why? I buy for myself once a season, for the kids twice a year, my husband probably shops once a year. We all look good! 4. Netflix/Hulu/ etc is $200 per month!!! thats cray. I get four of them, and it's about $50 per month. 5. Gambling and Entertainment $6000/year -- there's your problem. |
You would be if you weren’t pissing away $$ on monthly clothes, all that eating our and ordering in, streaming (who spends $200/mo in streaming?!?) gambling and entertainment and $6000 on vacations a year. Sh¡t I just typed this out and realized OP must be a troll. |

You have a spending problem, not an earnings problem.
I raise a family of five on that. |
| Clearly you are single. Wait until childcare, youth sports, bigger food, housing and health care budget REALLY eats up your money. |
You don’t need to spend that much on food. That is about what we spend in total for three adults. |
