OP, assuming you aren't a troll see the bolded above. If you can afford all of this, yes you're doing quite well financially. Maybe not rich, but comfortable if you can take multiple vacations per year plus spend that much on food and entertainment. That being said, you could save a lot more and feel a lot more wealthy. According to the above you're spending more than $1300/mo on food! Thousands of dollars a year on entertainment plus two vacations? What is your $500/mo on misc? You're clearly single and enjoying that life, more power to you. Really re-think where your money is going if you want to feel more financially secure. Start up top with retirement and short-term savings right after taxes and rent. NOW think about how to spend the rest of your money. You're saying you eat out twice a week and each of those outings is upwards of $100? Plus all the ordering in? Plus an additional $800/month on food. Make some better and less expensive choices. Just as a start. |
Don't need ordering out and eating out, don't need that much in new cloths, don't need netflix etc, "gambling", really? And miscellaneous? What are you buying, misc jewelry? Also don't need $3000 vacations TWICE a year. |
+1000 Also $200/month on Netflix, Hulu, etc? Pick one or two and spend only $25/month. So many ways to save even more. Savings: $175 Netflix/hulu category $300 ordering out $240 eating out -$50 add in another 50 to do those 2 categories at home $100 Only spend $100/month on clothing $500 vacation instead of $3000 and the list goes on. Lots of extras to cut from there. Also if single, then find friends and live in a townhouse/apartment where everyone has their own room/bathroom but share common areas. You could save another $500+ on rent |
You're either a troll or an idiot. No retirement savings? $6k/year on gambling? $200/month on streaming services (how the hell do you do that)? If you're eating out twice a week and ordering out twice a week, how are you spending a additional $200/week on food? |
OP: Easy solution to your problem. Stop paying taxes. |
|
I'm raising two kids on that salary, and it's FINE.
In addition to the issues highlighted above, how are streaming services coming to $200/month? Even if you have Prime + Netflix + HBO Max + Apple TV, you are still under $100/month. |
This is funny.
We are a family of three (single mom, two college-aged kids) living in DC on a HHI of 110k. |
+1 we don't spend that much and we're a family of 4 with a higher income and much higher savings |
|
When I was single I wasted a lot of money going out and on clothes too. If everyone in your circle spends money like this, you need to find a new circle so you don't feel pressure to keep up with your friends. And for the love of G_d, STOP GAMBLING!
While having kids is extremely expensive, one unappreciated thing about them is that they make you grow the F up and change your spending habits. |
| You all fell for the troll, hook line and sinker. |
| You are spending a lot. But PPs have detailed how you are doing this. |
| 150k is the new 50k |
+1 $1300/mo on food Op?? Take out and "after eating" and drinks. You gotta live within your means . And why is your car and health insurance so high?? |
+1 We're a family of 4 doing it too--in Fairfax. |
How and why are you paying $50k in taxes?? |
