WASHINGTON, D.C. – On July 17, 2023, the House Judiciary Committee and Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government conducted a transcribed interview of Laura Dehmlow, the Section Chief of the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF). During her transcribed interview, Dehmlow revealed that the same FBI personnel who were warning social media companies about a potential Russian “hack and leak” operation in the run-up to the 2020 election knew that the laptop belonging to Hunter Biden was not Russian disinformation.

That same day, representatives from the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force attended a previously scheduled meeting with Twitter, during which a Twitter employee asked the FITF about the authenticity of laptop. According to Section Chief Dehmlow’s testimony, an analyst in the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division embedded in FITF began to respond that the laptop was real, when an FBI lawyer interrupted to say that the FBI had “no further comment,” regarding the laptop’s provenance:

And yes, "the laptop" is real. But what was ON the laptop still remains questionable and in doubt.

No- she said who specifically was aware the laptop was real.

Later on October 14, FITF met with Facebook. During the FITF-Facebook meeting, Dehmlow responded to a similar question from a Facebook employee about Hunter Biden’s laptop by stating that the FBI, again, had “no comment.” The FBI made this decision despite being in possession of the laptop and having confirmed its authenticity. According to Dehmlow, multiple personnel on FITF knew that the laptop was real. She testified:

There is nothing that states that the laptop is real, but the information on the laptop is questionable. That’s continuing disinformation.

In Oct 2019, the FBI became aware that a Delaware repair shop had a laptop allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden and that the laptop might contain evidence of a crime.

The FBI verified its authenticity in Nov 2019 by matching the device number against Hunter Biden’s Apple iCloud ID.

According to the Section Chief of the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF), the FBI deliberately lied to social media companies about the authenticity of Hunter’s laptop... to protect candidate Joe Biden.

Where has it been proven anything on the laptop was altered?

The FBI is now admitting they have been aware from the beginning the laptop belonged to HB and they lied to social media and media media about it being “russian disinformation.”

Can you link the reputable sources that have confirmed the laptop has been altered?

You're aware that there's no duty by police or the FBI to tell the truth. And they don't. We either trust that the police, and the FBI, are on our side, or we don't. Conservatives used to, until they decided to side with criminals, such as the Trump family, etc.

Consider what you are upset about. That the FBI is not trying to hurt a presidential candidate? That the FBI is trying to stay out of influencing an election, one way or the other? That is a problem for you?

So, I believe that the laptop is real, the info on the laptop is real, and that this isn't a smear campaign.

At the same time, it's not the FBI's job to authenticate the laptop or its contents, so I think the "no further comment" comment was the appropriate response.
