DCPS Teacher Side Job- Should We Report It?

Anonymous
A teacher at my daughter’s school apparently works as a server at a gentleman’s club in downtown DC. Should we report her to the school? We think it’s inappropriate for an elementary school teacher to have this aid e job during the summer.

Omg the question you should be asking is why teachers are compensated so little that they feel the need to have side jobs

It's truly not your business, and they are off the clock.

What? Of course not. You don’t own her free time. She can do whatever she likes during the summer. I can’t believe you want to report her.

Of course you shouldn’t report her. You should be upset that she needs a second job.

For as high a standard as we expect teachers to meet, you’d think we would pay and respect them more.

I definitely understand your concerns about this woman’s other job. Gentleman’s clubs are often the settings for drug use and violence. Hopefully this teacher isn’t using illegal drugs which could impact her ability to teach. If I were you, I would notify the school.

No, a server job probably wouldn't even violate a morality clause.

Kudos to your husband on getting to the bottom of this too !

How do you know she works there? Have you been frequenting gentleman's clubs? I'm going to report you to your employer!

Or at least ON the bottom of this

The only way you would know this is by patronizing the club. Personally, I think people who frequent strip joints are way skeezier than people who work there.

Me and a couple of girlfriends went there for a birthday party. I immediately recognized one of the servers as a second grade teacher from my daughter’s school. I was in disbelief that she was a server at the establishment.

So, it’s okay for you as a parent to go there, but not for the teacher to work there? Maybe you need to be reported to CPS for being an unfit parent. In reality, you need to get off your high horse and accept that the teacher is probably making more $ this summer than she does teaching.

Because this person works with children, she should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us during her off hours? This reminds me of the a century ago, when teachers had to be unmarried and had to live in a house with a chaperone.

If you expect teachers to follow more stringent requirements of behavior than the rest of us, then it’s time to give them FAR more respect and pay than we do.

Now if she had a regular side job, I wouldn’t be upset about this. There’s just something about folks who hold certain positions being in establishments like these that bothers me.

Why is that different than you as a parent patronizing the establishment? It’s not.
