Protests in France following a police shooting of a teenager

Anyone else following the protests in France following the police shooting of a teenager of North African descent? The government is deploying 40,000 police to quell the unrest and around 150 people have already been arrested. Interestingly, Macron described the shooting as “inexcusable,” in rare criticism of law enforcement." It's interesting to see how a country other than ours handles these all-too-familiar situations.

"The incident has reignited debate in France about police tactics amid longstanding criticism from rights groups about the treatment of people in low-income suburbs, particularly ethnic minorities. Nahel was pulled over by two police officers for breaking traffic rules while driving a rented yellow Mercedes. Police initially reported that an officer had shot at the teenager because he was driving his car at him, but this version of events was contradicted by a video circulating on social media. That footage shows the two police officers standing by the side of the stationary car, with one pointing a weapon at the driver. A voice is heard saying: “You are going to get a bullet in the head.” The police officer then appears to fire as the car abruptly drives off."

Yes. There appears to be a civil war starting in Paris.

They've opened up the Paris zoo and zebras are running down the streets.

Macron needs to step down he has lost all control.

Reminds me of the riots here during the summer of 2020.

The teen shouldn't have been shot but he was also a deeply problematic individual with a long history of encounters with the police. This isn't necessarily France's "George Floyd" moment, however. There are deep reservations towards the Arab populations, once you're outside the usual Parisian progressives. The riots are far more worrisome than the police shooting the teen.

Just wait till the OAS gets involved. August 2023 could be a stormy time for France.

Once you scratch the surface almost everyone shot is not exactly a model citizen

Wrong. Nothing brings together the French like burning and rioting.

Same usual riots. Everything will go back to “normal” in a few days. The French people need their vacations.

The teen wasn’t an Arab — he was a Berber!

Berbers were islamized by the Arab invasion of Algeria — they aren’t Arabs tho

So the cops who shoot unarmed citizens have their rap sheet in front of them when they make the decision to shoot or not? Or can they just "tell" by looking at them that they're not "model citizens"?

Perhaps the French should have thought of that before they established colonies in North Africa (and West Africa and the Caribbean). Of course, the same applies to Americans and their involvement in the slave trade.

France needs more immigration, the melting pot is so good for French culture .
