MS girls tournaments

How many tournaments do your MS girls go to in the summer, and the fall? How do you select which tournaments to attend? Are you trying to play more challenging teams from other states?

Our team goes to 4 in the fall and 4 in the summer and plays in NGLL in the spring. How our tournaments are decided involve a lot of factors but parental input isn’t one of them (as far as I know). It is nice to play teams we don’t see that often.

The club director manages which tournaments teams go to months in advance of the actual tournament.

Your club director selects the tournaments and recommends what bracket age group teams should play in. Tournaments may not always place teams in those brackets. Also, clubs need to be invited to play in some tournaments which involve the higher ranked teams. Playing in 3-4 tournaments is typical for most clubs.

How do they know which bracket to choose? We keep on going to tournaments where we are either winning easily or losing easily.

I believe there is a point rating system the coaches use and assigns to their teams, so the teams play others at the same/similar level. If your director continues to place your team in a bracket where they lose easily this will eventually work against the team. The tournaments want competitive brackets and will bump teams down that cannot compete in a bracket. The goal is to play in the highest bracket your team can and make sure the team is competitive. Winning and losing is not something college coaches care about. Just make sure the team is competitive and playing in higher brackets.

The actual term used during registration is LOP=Level of Play. Highest level is 5, which in theory equates to highest bracket. As mentioned earlier clubs determine #, which increases as the girls get older. Summer going into 9th grade teams should be doing 4-5 but before that 2-3 is fine per age. Depends on the LOP and commitment of the team/girls. Historically NL does not do tourneys into July b/c ppl want to go away, but there is a component to development where it benefits the future Wash Post All-Met to play into July. Heck, swim meets go into
July.

And part of NL problem is the invites as mentioned before. They don't get the invites to tournaments like LFTC because it goes to returning clubs and more established clubs in general so it's hard to break into that mold unless you area well-connected person that starts a club which is rare.

Are you asking because you are looking for a middle school team for your daughter? If so,

Pride plays in all of the big tournaments in the highest or 2nd to highest divisions .

Stars plays in most of the big tournaments, but in middle of the pack divisions

Metro, YJMA, NL and BLC attend less tournaments and are in low divisions.

Is this consistent across grade years for clubs? We are on a 2030 team and trying to see if we should move.

First, talk to your daughter about what she wants out of lacrosse. If she enjoys the team she is on and the level of play you should take this into consideration.

If she is one of the better players on her current team, needs to be challenged more, and play better competition you should consider a move.

If the latter is her path I would suggest trying out for a better club in 6/7th grade.

Yes this is true across all grades.

If you think she can make the A team on Pride or Stars than moving this year is fine. If you think she will make the B team just stay at your current club if she is happy there and let her develop more.

The BLC teams are in the better tournaments and brackets too, look at their 2029s

This is correct, for the 2029s and 2030s BLC Blue is the local team to beat.
