Platner is in too deep now and probably won’t go quietly like a typical candidate. Maine is likely stuck with him.

Prediction: Platner wins nomination, but not by nearly as much as the polls show. Over 50 but not much over.
If not, there will be a very poor turnout.

NYT says he has 72% of the vote at 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 9.

Oh don’t worry, we do. Jackman is a hot bed of white supremacy, your state has more hate crimes per capita than any other state, and there are hardly any Jewish folks or POCs up there. Having a Nazi tattoo must have boosted Platner’s votes by 10% to be honest.

You forgot to mention all the militia based there and all the others who regularly travel to Maine from other parts of the country to train for the coming race wars.

Look up the Charlie Howard killing for an idea of Maine’s warmth toward the LGBTQ community and realize that a substantial number of Maine people grew up in homes where they still refer to the chuck a **** bridge over the Kenduskeag River in Bangor where the rainbow pride crosswalk painted a week or so ago has been defaced repeatedly by locals.

Noteworthy also is the substantially higher than national average DUI rate and the high rate of domestic violence, persistently in the top ten states for such crimes.

Maine is the Alabama of the north. Mississippi currently has better public schools (16th) than Maine does (41st).

Bigotry is rooted from ignorance and lack of exposure. Go to any country, state, province, city or town where there are no white, black, brown, Christian, Muslim, Jewish.... and you will find people who think they hate white, black, brown, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish people. In the US, you'll find true racism in places that aren't diverse like upstate New York, Idaho, Nebraska, parts of Maine and Utah, and many other micros regions of our country that have never been exposed to the beauty of diversity.

You can go to Asia and find a boatload of scary racism towards anyone not presenting as Asian... same can be said for many parts of Europe. It's all ignorance rooted from lack of exposure to people who present differently. Those of us who have been exposed to diversity know that humans can only be judged fairly by the content of their character.

I’ve spent most of my life in rural places, including the next town over from Graham Platner, small towns in Montana and Arizona. Yes, plenty of racism. I currently live in a very diverse very liberal commonwealth- the most liberal in the country - and plenty of racism here, too. It doesn’t really matter if you grow up where there is or isn’t diversity - racism is about a hateful heart and the inclination to teach the same to children.

Whether on the left on the right, there's no solidarity like white solidarity. All sorts of excuses to make sure white people, especially white men, land softly and are never held accountable.

What in the world are you even talking about? What makes you think GP is a white supremacist? It’s Janet Mills who has a history of blocking tribal rights in Maine for our four Wabanaki Nations.

I dunno. Maybe the giant Nazi SS Totenkopf tattoo he had on his chest for twenty years. I'm thinking Nazi tattoos might provide clue as to Platner's thoughts about race.

STFU about that tatoo! You are so pathetic!! He won! Ha ha ha!!

And he's going to unseat that immoral pos Susan Collins who voted to confirm a sexual predator to the SCOTUS. She will be gone, and Platner is going to be the next US Senator from Maine.

I could GAS about his past history. I care about what he's going to do for the people of Maine, and for the future of our country.

I respect your anecdotal experience but I'm certain exposure to physically and culturally different people from an early age goes a long way towards understanding how and why people can only judged by their individual character.

DP. It's so weird that you think he's actually won the senate seat already.

Mainiacs are not going to vote for Susan Collins. They don't care about the questionable dirt the GOP is digging up about Platner. Mainiacs do not care!! They see him as a flawed human, a working man, who has admitted he's had struggles in his life, but he wants to do the right thing for the people of Maine.

I grew up in rural largely white New England and even had a Nazi sympathizing bigoted misogynist father and yet from a very early age rejected what I was hearing at home - and paid a dear price for the rebellion. When I had the chance to interact with a diverse group of humans later in life it confirmed my already long standing feeling of anti prejudice, which I learned reading Diary of Anne Frank in fifth grade and watching Eyes on the Prize on PBS - and possibly very key was my formative years spent watching Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers.

I think that neuroscience is teaching us that much of inclination to conservatism or liberalism and xenophobia or empathy for diversity is rooted in our amygdala and other brain processes.

You are clearly a higher IQ person. The average person has their brain shaped more so by what they are to exposed to at an early age and not by the knowledge they seek and obtain independently. I'd bet my left thumb that many of your grade school classmates went in the Nazi direction until were enlightened by exposure. I can relate to your experience.

Yes, I live in a New England state and spent nearly two decades of my formative years living and working and attending university in Maine. One of my degrees is PoliSci earned at Maine and I worked on multiple state and federal elections in Maine including for candidates who tried to unseat Collins in past elections. I’m sad to see what Maine has revealed about itself to me since they elected Paul LePage and now the progressives are getting in on the same gutter game.

I thought Maine was going good places when I last lived there 17 years ago - I was sad I had to leave for professional opportunities - but lately Maine is making me grateful life worked out this way.

Be proud of where you're from. There is nothing wrong with Mainers as a collective group of people that is any different from the wrong that exists in groups of people from every region of the country. We are all flawed humans. Good and bad folks can be found in every nook and cranny of the world.

They saw an L.L. Bean catalogue once and clearly know everything there is to know about Maine.

If you use real data like NAEP scores, graduation rates, and school quality metrics instead of the flawed Kids Count Data Book, Maine actually ranks #13 and Alabama #42.

Are there racist dipshits in Maine? Yes.

Are there racist dipshits everywhere? Yes.

Maine isn’t especially exceptional in that category. Militias target Maine because of its rural, underpopulated nature and lack of diversity, not because it’s some kind of KKK recruiting hotbed. Nazis tried to start up a white ethnostate in Springfield and got booted out.

Where are you getting your DV data? The DUI data are probably largely attributed to Maine’s rural population. If you look at the other top 10 states for dui arrests, they overlap with the most rural states.

Ted Kennedy literally killed a woman so I don’t think a tattoo and a bad dating history are enough to take down a popular white man.
