Columbia permanently pulls out of US news

Columbia won’t be submitting data to US News. Will other colleges follow?

US News will likely continue to rank with what data they have.

Sounds like a hissy fit.

Yup.

Transparency and accountability are hard.

In short:

We got caught cheating and are unwilling to pay the price so we quit.

Columbia doesn't need the headache. I would't be surprised to see other similarly situated schools like HYPSM or the top SLACs like Williams and Amherst follow suit. I also wouldn't be surprised to see lower ranked flagships (Alabama, Arizona, Nebraska...) to realize that the ratings are in no way helping them and pull out.

Normally, I would respond to a post like this by asking for some of what you are smoking, but I believe that almost anything is possible.

Honestly, the US News rankings strike me as akin to a protection racket by the mafia.

It's worse when they claim to rank high schools.

Don't see how you can honestly defend this. The clearly cared about the ranking when they were cheating and subsequently bragging about their #2 ranking. Now they don't need it? It's phony. They likely realized the changes US news is making to the ranking would permanently lower their ranking, so they're getting out in front of it.

I’m out of the loop. What was the cheating?

Columbia GS has over a 50% transfer acceptance rate. It's time people realize this school isn't as prestigious as its made to seem.

They are the ivy league school in NYC. They will be fine. It does not matter if they are ranked 7 or 27, they are still the most prestigious university in the largest city in the country.

I would hate to be a Columbia alum right now. This feels worse than the USC scandals.

Remember when law schools started pulling out and people laughed at the first couple and then most of the prestigious schools followed suit

And USnews still ranked them. US news makes billions off these rankings, they won't let the schools win that easily.
