This the NEAT

I’ve been losing weight and wanted to share that I’ve been reading up on Non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT).

I know many of us struggle with losing or keeping weight off so I’ve been researching different things to do.

Let me know of you purposely use NEAT.

Basically just move more on purpose with pupose. Here is a good article.

This explains why Im also skinnier in The summer. Im in The garden more…

Did not read the articles, but yes NEAT is critical when I am cutting weight. People generally underestimate how much their non-exercise activity matters and put too much emphasis on exercise which does not burn that much overall if you just do some 3-4 workouts a week. I always consciously increase steps (to 15-20k a day) when I am trying to lose fat, also because I hate eating poverty calories.

I will work out intensely for an hour a day but NEAT seems to be an all day mini-workout sessions that compound to burn calories.

Never heard of this before but it's definitely true.

A NEAT tip (now that I know what it is): listen to music at home more, and move your body to it. Good for your mental health AND it counts as NEAT exercise. I like to dance around while I'm cooking and cleaning in the evening, we put on music to make it easier to get the kids ready for bed, I put it on in the morning to help people wake up and because it helps set the tone for a better mood for everyone. But bonus, you'll burn more calories if you dance around while doing this stuff than you would if weren't dancing. Neat!

Another important factor in more NEAT over traditional exercise in weight loss is hunger and fatigue. Intense exercise sessions make most people much hungrier AND you are more tired afterward and thus more likely to be sedentary for the remainder of the day. So you might have burned 400 calories at Orangetheory, but that led to overeating and being unable to move. In a typical day, I log about 700 NEAT calories. Far more than I ever did with traditional exercise.

This is why I got my walking pad for my standing desk. Sitting is killing the NEAT.

This is a great point. That is when the activity trackers come in handy. I definitely observe this and literally force myself to move around more when dieting.
