Contraceptive for DD heading to college

Considering contraceptive options for DD started dating recently
Where do we start? Appointment with Pediatrician or going to a gyn directly (she doesn’t have one yet)

My DD went to a gynecologist where she met a NP who specialized in teens.

This was us last summer. DD asked to go on the pill before going away. Pediatrician said to see a gynecologist.

Ok sounds like no point to start with her pedestrian

Following as my DD is heading off to college and asked to go on contraception.
She has an appointment with a GYN this summer.

For those with experience with this, have any of your DDs opted for a non-pill contraceptive like an IUD, implant, or injections? I'm concerned DD will forget to take the pill daily.

The IUD is the surest bet (for contraceptive purposes) v. implants or injections. The insertion is rather painful, however. You/she really need to speak up about the gyn numbing her during it.

Have you asked her? I waited until marriage and would have offended if my parents had dragged me to the doctor for birth control just because I was going off to college.

Take her to a gyn. IUD would be best choice.

Be offended, then. Because if OP’s daughter gets pregnant, the burden of raising the child will fall on OP as it always does in such situations. Not to mention, OP’s daughter might not know yet if she’ll want to be sexually active, but if/when she does in the heat of a moment, she needs to have contraception.

ETA: make sure it is crystal clear that contraceptives do not prevent STDs and she needs to using condoms every time

This about the DD, not you, Mom. Her feelings matter.

IUD all the way. Low side effects, no need to remember to take something, and likely no/light periods.

And you were so smart and clever to avoid being raped.

Obv OP is going to have a conversation with her adult daughter headed to college to see if she is wanting to get contraception. Her daughter would say no if not interested and OP has to accept that.

It isn’t hard to get contraception. And school heath center can provide this if/when she is ready if she doesn’t want to just yet.

You can get IUD at college heath center? Or just condoms
