Given that long term maintenance significant weight loss has long been known to be incredibly rare and difficult, no matter the weight loss strategy, is it surprising that an effective treatment is catching a lot of interest? |
And we’re finally making progress in treating it. |
We are creating a league of short sighted addicts. These are great drugs for people whose lives are at risk due to weight issues. Otherwise, I want to cry so bad for their futures. |

Anybody that has done any amount of work in the pharma space would realize the goal in life is to avoid big pharma. The drugs are great, but I’m not so sure saddling yourself with that addiction is worth it. |
Or they have serious metabolic disorders that make losing weight almost impossible, and that extra weight is seriously increasing their risk of heart attack and stroke, so they weigh the risk of the drug against that. Oh and also, Your Judginess, you still have to exercise and eat in a deficit while on the drug. |
Weird, I have spent my whole career working in pharma and I think these drugs are on par with vaccines for meaningfully changing health outcomes at the population level. So I guess not “anybody.” |
We have a lot of big, serious issues going on in our country. You’ve picked an odd issue to be sad about. Might I recommend taking up a cause like gun control, suicide prevention, or mental health instead? |
How many marathons have YOU run? Because I promise you I’m not the only multiple marathon finisher who’s on these meds because I’m at risk for serious health problems. |
