If you lost weight focusing mainly on diet, did you…

Eliminate entire food groups? That is the question.

I would love for this not to devolve into a debate about CICO, macros, or anything else, just really want to know what worked for you (and your stats, if you’re comfortable sharing). Thank you!

I focused mainly on portion control, and cutting out snacks unless they were fruit or vegetables. So three meals, smaller than previous, and no snacks.

Nope. Just counting calories. Lost 90 lbs.

No. I’m focused on eating Whole Foods and limiting sugar and empty calories. Listening to body signals and staying mildly hungry.

No, eat everything, including plenty of carbs. Lost 52 of the 70 I need to lose and still counting.

Just focus on the good foods and eat more of those than the bad ones.

I'm 44F btw

I tracked calories and also tried to eat lower carb. Not no carb and I didn’t eliminate anything.

I did IF, and ate as much as I wanted for 8 hours.

I tried to eat mostly plant based whole foods + I took milk, butter, ghee, paneer and yogurt.

I ate soup with lunch and dinner. And I drank green juice in the morning.

No processed foods if I could help it.

Generous food portions with lots of variety. I was eating so, so, so much veggies that I think I changed my gut biome completely.

Also, drank a lot of Keffir and Kombucha (store bought).

Not entirely, but I heavily restricted white carbs.

I went from 165 to 145 in about five months without cutting entire food groups. I have generally just cut back on everything. I used to drink wine every day but now only on weekends. I used to have breakfast but now just lunch and dinner, and those portions are a lot smaller. I still do "splurge" on things like pizza, bagels, hamburgers, chocolate etc, but try to balance it out where if I do that one day I try to eat healthier on the several next days that follow.

I’ve never lost weight without doing pretty restrictive low carb except for now on Ozempic. Without Ozempic I have a really hard time doing low calorie unless it’s pretty low carb and I avoid all eating out situations.

I did not cut anything but tracked calories and tried to eat the Michael Pollan way - real food, mostly plants, not too much. I cut down on alcohol, processed foods. And the experience really changed my eating habits. I pretty much eat whatever I want, but find I like eating Whole Foods much more than processed. I eat plenty of carbs and sweets, I just make them from scratch. Have kept the weight off for 5 years.

How much weight? I tried for years to make this work but my natural hunger level just didn't work with it.

The only food Group I mostly eliminated was alcohol-especially high alcohol beer which has a ton of calories. Like others, that lead to eating more Whole Foods and dropping other junk. I’m down around 90-100 lbs and have been around this weight for 2+ years. I’m making an effort to keep some weight/muscle on since I let my weight drop down too low last summer. 42M.

Wow, I’m impressed with you all! congrats!

I did during the week, and then I ate anything I wanted on the weekends which luckily did not devolve into bingeing. During the week I cut out: meat but not fish/seafood, dairy, processed sugars, processed foods, simple carbohydrates.
