Restaurant hacks ?

With increasing cost, have you noticed people doing more of it ?
Today I noticed a lady at Starbucks ordering two large coffee and requested two Venti ice.
Then she made herself an ice coffee and ask the barista to put whip cream.

I have a relative who does the tap water/sugar packet/lemon "hack" and she lives in a million dollar home.

My dd at college goes to Olive Garden and orders a meal. While there she only eats the unlimited breadsticks and soup. Then takes home the meal for the next day.

Using restaurant apps saves a lot of money. There are always deals and coupons and you earn free food. They are annoying in many respects, but they do allow you to save money.

I don’t know how meaningful that is these days my house is worth $1mm now and you’ll catch me doing all kinds of hacks!

When our go-to Thai place jacked up prices I started buying a kids meal “for” my toddler. Obvious one but I didn’t used to do this.

Well, these first two hacks aren’t going to lead to big savings because they’re still expensive meals.

I have a kid who loves crab cakes, but of course, they’re $$$, so I order the 2 mini crab and shrimp sliders appetizer from Coastal Flats and have them leave off the Asian slaw (which kid wouldn’t eat). Sibling gets the adult size chicken fingers with 2 sides and we make both sides fries and then give half the fries to crab cake lover.

For takeout from our favorite hibachi restaurant, teenage dd and I both can get 2 meals out of one hibachi dinner by adding extra protein and extra side of veggies. Much cheaper than two complete dinners. It works because I don’t like the soup and dd doesn’t like the salad.

For real hack: Using the McDonalds app scores a lot of freebies. Cheaper (and faster!) to get coffee, frappes and smoothies there than going to Starbucks, even if you get Starbucks rewards.

PP, maybe your relative is using the “lemonade” hack and others because her million dollar house is stretching her thin!

We order 2 Chiptoles for the 5 of us (kids are 6, 4 and 1). We get the bowl, then buy 5 tortillas on the side. At home, we just split the Chipotle bowls into bowls for my kids and they tear up the tortilla and put it on top.

It's actually still more food than we need.

I don't begrudge my rich friends from their holdover habits from when they were poor. At least they clawed their way to the top, and I admire that.

My blood was basically all mcdonald's sugar free vanilla iced coffee last summer. Can't beat $2 for any size.

A single chipotle taco is less than half the cost of three and if you ask for a bunch of stuff in it, ends up being basically the same size as three!
