K Street Transitway

What the hell is going on with this? Design was supposed to be finalized and construction starting but nothing is happening. K St as it stands is a disgusting mess of a road. I can’t wait for the city to tear it up.

I somehow missed this. What is the plan? I walk along K street every day to get to work. I’m just happy that they’ve put out lots of rat traps and the guy who used to live at 16th and K has found a new home.

I’m going to guess that the property owners, tenants and businesses think the access roads are more important that bike lanes. Considering that there are already bike directly parallel on H and I, the future of K street will not include 20 ft of dedicated bikeway.

There are currently bike lanes on H, I, L and M. The new plan is to improve the L street lanes. Bike lanes in downtown DC are done. Charles Allen is not even willing to support them as a matter of substance.

Link? I don’t think this is true. K is plenty wide enough when you remove the stupid service lanes. The plans I saw have plenty of room for a bus lane, bike lane, and two lanes of traffic in each direction.

DP but the link posted above provides a lot details. And yes, there will no longer be any bike lanes in the plan for K St. That much is confirmed directly from DDOT.

There is zero need for bike lanes on K, when you already have the L Street cycle track and the bus/bike priority lane on Eye Street.

I’d prefer to see a street car or bus priority lane on K Street.

Sorry, mass transit funding has been cut. Bike lanes are expensive.

Both L and M streets have protected bike lanes.

Isn't that the main point of the K Street project, building rapid bus lanes?
