Minneapolis approved change in noise regulations to allow Islamic call to prayer 5 times per day

The Minneapolis city council just voted to modify their noise pollution regulations to allow Islamic call to prayer 5 times per day including at 5:30 am and 9:30pm. I would really be annoyed if I lived anywhere near a mosque or church or any religious organization that had loud bells or speakers going off so early or late in the day. The ordinance is now amended to read that the following are exempt from being a violation of the noise ordinance:

"Sounds created by bells, chimes, carillons, amplifying equipment, or sounds associated with religious worship no more than six (6) minutes in any one (1) hour and no more than sixty (60) minutes in a twenty-four-hour period,"

Up to an hour a day is excessive. And how is it fair for any religion to be allowed to make noise early in the morning or at night? This isn’t anything against Muslims, I would just not want to hear a call to prayer over loudspeakers 35 times a week from any religion being broadcast over loudspeakers that I could hear from my house.

Did you read the article you shared? It looks like it was a unanimous vote by the council with no organized opposition to it. I think you're looking for a problem where none exists.

I doubt mosques will go that far but if they do there will be some organized opposition.

It’s an article from the local paper. Read the comments. There is opposition, which isn’t anti-Islam just anti-noise. It’s hard to know how well this item on the city council agenda was publicized. I would not feel comfortable going and raising an opposition because I would be afraid to be targeted for being anti-religious.

It's not a consecutive hour. It's an hour total in 24, six minutes per hour and not even every hour. Maybe you missed the part about church bells. There are places where they toll for a good 30 seconds, very loudly, and places where they play the carillon for 15 minutes every few hours, which is more than double the six minutes for the call to prayer.

Last I checked most cities were not exactly peaceful wilderness retreats where there is complete silence except for birdsong and chuckling brooks. If it's too much noise for you, move somewhere quieter. Or just get over it.

Is this a question or a comment?

I think the call to prayer is one of the loveliest sounds out there. It's not like it's a honking horn.

This is clearly unconstitutional.
