| Which is better for this?( particularly in Philosophy and Political Science) |
| I know PhDs who have attended both. I think the question is where will your kid do best? The environments are very different. They want to go where they'll be inspired to do well. |
| Your kid will need to work closely with 1-2 profs, preferably doing a thesis of some sort, so that s/he can get strong recs for graduate programs. Either school can work - go where DC feels most comfortable and perhaps look at faculty and whether any have similar overlapping interests who might serve as advisor/mentor. |
| Professor here...agree both are great options and the student should look at specific faculty profiles and/or evaluate where they'll be happiest. |
| Both would be fine, go based on fit. |
| toss a coin, they'll land just fine at either place. |

Humanities PhD... don't do that.
(I have one.) |
| Either |
| These threads are so dumb. |
Botb are great. My UVA grad is doing a doctorate (DPhil) at Oxford right now. |
+1 My husband has one too. (Sorry, the jobs weren't there 15 years ago and they really really aren't there now.) |
There you are!!

Hard agree (same). Unless kiddo is fine teaching grades 6712, because that's probably where they'll end up. |

The cheapest option, because a PhD in the Humanities isn't going to generate a lot of income. And if money is not an issue, then visit both and choose based on vibe. Also, stop dumping on the happy parent with the Oxford kid - it takes a lot to get in, and they are understandably proud. It's an anonymous forum, it's all right to boast. |
