MCPS covid cases

If parents want schools to go virtual or have plans for outbreaks, they need to start signing up for public comments because right now the only voices are the ones screaming about 1/2 days, the abuse of mask wearing and who think COVID is no longer a problem.

Maybe you're talking about a different MCPS? The MCPS for this forum is the Montgomery County, Maryland, Public Schools.

If you're concerned, keep your kids home next week.

We're all in this together so I'm writing the BOE.

I think this would have ended long ago if people had been willing to step up and make some sacrifices even if they were inconvenient but because they aren't, this is going to drag on and on.

Just stop. They aren’t closing schools. You just stay home.

If we were all in this together, then the schools would have reopened in August 2020.

It will only end once everyone gets it. Vaccines are helping lessen symptoms but isn’t stopping it. Once we all have it, it will go away. Locking ourselves away and trying to hide from it will only drag it out.

Bad news for everyone:

As covid cases rise in the region, Maryland hospitals reaching near capacity

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2021/12/15/maryland-hospitals-coronavirus-capacity/

Shit. You are not lying. I went to my gyno doc and she said they are having to send labor and delivery cases somewhere else as hospitals are full of covid cases. I did not believe her and went by Frederick Memorial on the way home. I was astonished. The lots were full and cars were wrapped around the building and down streets like snakes. I guess it is for testing. WTH! i believe we can do better. It is feeling like 2020 up in here. A lot of people who are fully vaccinated are getting covid and getting pretty sick to where they feel that they cannot breathe on their own and go to the ER or urgent care.

The article says the vast majority of people in the hospital are either unvaccinated or vaccinated but with underlying conditions. The hospitals are not filling up with fully vaxxed generally healthy people.

So do you just not care about vaccinated people who have the unfortunate luck of having underlying conditions? These are human beings!

People with underlying health conditions have always had to take extra precautions. It sucks for them all around, but you can’t make everyone adhere to the same risk assessment as the small percentage of people who are fully vaxxed but have underlying conditions. Society has never worked that way.

Those in charge of the community should consider measures to protect the health and safety of the adults in the community. It is not the responsibility of school leaders to continually take things away from children to protect the community at large. End of story.

Protect yourself. My kid got vaccinated. Did their part. If you’re scared, that’s your problem.

Tell it to the increasing number of folks who have been reinfected.

Yes, we have reached the point where the education of the children must be prioritized. All eligible people should get vaccinated - I actually think it should be mandated for all eligible people and kids need to remain in school.

Yeah, influenza says the "once we all have it, it will go away" thing is wrong.

All the more reason to keep schools open.

It’s a lot easier for me, as someone with an underlying condition, to be extra-cautious and avoid unnecessary risks, than it is for my high school student to be successful in virtual school.

For us, school is a necessary risk. We don’t take many other Covid risks as a family, and we’re all fully vaxxed and boosted, but my child’s future, and their mental health, are nonnegotiable.

+1 Same in our house, with two in high school and one in college. Our kids' sacrifices must end, while we adults at higher risk make decisions about how to protect ourselves.
