You might be right about all of that. But Princess Michael sure was making a point of some sort when she wore that brooch when Meghan first met the extended family. Obviously I have no way of knowing what the rest of the family did or didn’t do in response to that. And obviously I have no idea how Meghan herself felt. As a Black woman who has spent a lot of time in majority white spaces, I DO think that this welcome-to-the-family gesture is one that might be both painful and difficult to dismiss.

Princess Michael is relevant because they continue to keep her and her husband in the fold. Living in their free housing etc.

She was put on a back shelf long ago for saying inappropriate things. She used to give the prizes at Wimbledon and they basically retired her.

The Wimbledon trophy was presented for many years by Katharine, Duchess of Kent. She is the wife of the Duke of Kent. She retired due to age and a testy relationship with the tournament. Princess Michael was never involved with Wimbledon.

The Royals very clearly have a demographic problem with less than 20% of 14-24 year olds siding with the royals over the Markles. They’re going to keep blaming Meghan right until they end up with a much more drastically pared down monarchy. Meghan is a Hollywood nobody who they could have handled by ignoring her and doing some work to modernize their race relations. Instead they obsessively leaked negative stories about her and Harry to the press and totally ignored the race issue while trying to hold on to the commonwealth countries. Completely backwards.

If it was Charles (who also walked her down the aisle remember?) - it might have been old person cluelessness along the same lines as referring to people of Asian descent as "Orientals".
Perhaps it wasn't intended to be offensive, it might have just been curious politeness that was spun out of control. Given the track record of these two grifters (H&M) I lean towards it being innocuous comment by out of touch royalty.

Or it might have been William, we don't know. What's also interesting is that Harry, who overheard the comments, chose to share them with Meghan -- who would have been more directly hurt by such comments.

While the comments might not have been intended to be offensive, they were in no way "innocuous ". Racism, even casual, built-into-the-culture racism is never innocuous.

It's not racist to speculate on whose looks your grandchild (if it was Charles) might inherit. This happens ALL the time. I am sure the family ruminated on ginger hair as well.

Many people who have never been personally, negatively impacted by racism would likely agree with you.

Harry and Meghan didn't leave because of racism, although they're having a good time throwing out accusations.

They left because Meghan had a breakdown. She had a combination of post partum depression and culture shock and panicked, and Harry panicked right along with her.
