Post-Roe, will there be more infants available to adopt?

Anonymous
Or is it still a process with insanely long waitlists?
Anonymous
No, of course not. The process is hit or miss depending on luck and how much you are willing to pay.

Are you hoping there are? If so you’re a terrible human.

But probably not. Unless you are willing to adopt a non-white baby, and then only maybe. It’s probably likely that more children will grow up in poverty.

Unfortunately there will also be in an increase in mortality for pregnant woman and their fetuses, as desperation increases.

Unlikely. Rich women will go where they need to for abortions. Poor women will have unsafe options or keep the baby.

And medical abortions are still legal.

I know that there is this fantasy about blond, blue eyed girls with great SATs getting pregnant in college by a blond, blue eyed athlete, top scholar supply perfect babies for a bunch of Conservative hags to adopt but that isn’t happening. Sorry Amy.

Nah those girls are going to drop out to become tradwives and failed christian influencers with alcoholic husbands and far too many children.

There is much less stigma against being a single parent now, so I would be surprised if a lot of people who wanted abortions but were unable to get them put their baby up for adoption. Many abortions are for reasons that would not be conducive to creating adoptable babies - serious fetal defects, for example, or issues with the woman's health that make the pregnancy riskier. We will absolutely see more infant and maternal mortality and morbidity.

Interestingly, that happened for one woman (twice!). They did not abortion or pursue adoption: https://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/story/_/id/25186338/princeton-tigers-field-hockey-player-mother-two-annabeth-donovan-hopes-finish-career-national-title?platform=amp

That’s certainly ACB’s wet dream, isn’t it? She should be forced to hold every anencephalitic newborn as they seize to death, soothe every drug addicted newborn as they scream endlessly, and pay for every severely disabled child’s medical bills and care for the rest of their lives.

Aside from that? A forced “domestic supply” of infants- hooray!

Disgusting

No sorry Serena Joy

The majority of women who have abortions already have at least one child. They are not typically in situations where adoption makes sense or feels acceptable.

Just for example, I'm an early-40s mother who definitely feels done having kids, and if I got pregnant today I would terminate -- but if I couldn't terminate I would keep the baby. Even though that would greatly impact my health, finances, and marriage, and the kid likely would have medical issues due to parental age and background.

So: more dead pregnant women, more suffering children, more poverty and distress for families. But not more adoptions.
