| DD12 just asked me to start watching with her. I never watched in real time, though I know it has a cult-like following. We are one episode in and man, what a quirky show. What’s the mass appeal? Is it just nostalgia over a coming of age show? |
| 50% of Americans have IQs below 100. |
| I've never understood the fascination with this show. I gave it a really good go and never got into it. It boggles the mind. |
| I watched it in real time and was the same age as Rory and also went to a private school. I liked the mom/daughter relationship and the quirky characters. |
|
Watch the whole thing and come back.
A lot of people have an agenda against the show today |
| Clever writing, chock full of pop references that are very entertaining. Heartwarming stories, humor, (mostly) charismatic cast. I recently watched with my 11 yo daughter and we both loved it, and it was a great opportunity to discuss an array of life lessons. But in my experience people either adore Amy Sherman-Palladino projects or dislike them, not much middle ground. |

I hated it as a tween/young teen when it was on the air. I found it so annoying and trying too hard.
I love the creators other show though- the marvelous Mrs. Maisel. |
It is one of those shows that did not be well. In the end, Paris and Emily are the best characters. |
|
| I honestly never liked that show; as an adult, I found out why. Not a fan; VERY dishonest and narcissistic ideas about womanhood, female bonding, etc. |
| It's mainly escapism. A cute quirky charming New England town. Family and generational drama. Watching it now I realize how often they fall back into money despite the "riches to rags" story and how overall white it is, but I still love it. It's clever and comforting. |
Paris and Emily are definitely the best characters. |
+1 I also related to the fraught mother-daughter relationship and envied the close one. |
And the lines are quick. |
| It was perfect to watch through midnight feedings with my middle baby. Sweet memories. |
