JMU decisions out

39,000 kids applied to JMU. Please have your kids put in their decisions if they are not going so some kids who really want to go can come off of the waitlist. This is heartbreaking

RD? EA came out already.

This is the highest applicant ever for JMU. The JMU Computer Science program is very good and reasonably priced. It's becoming a draw.

RD came out today. It's heartbreaking for some kids who really wanted to go to JMU. DUH!

That's not how it works. Like nearly all colleges, JMU accepts far more students than will enroll: historically JMU accepts nearly 4x the number of students they expect to enroll based on their yield/enrollment rate. So someone putting their decision in early or late makes no difference to whether someone will come off the waitlist as they anticipate this in their admissions process. After decision day--May 1--schools look at their actual enrollment rate, and use the waitlist if needed. If any kid is waitlisted, the odds are usually quite slim--best advice is to move on to another school. By all means, accept the waitlist position--but psychologically make another decision you are happy with.

well you didn't exactly specify that your kid did not get in, which would be heartbreaking. Otherwise, I'd think it's exciting for those that did.

It disappoints me that you put this weight on parents and accepted students. Perhaps blame the school for going test optional.

Crazy. I have a 2024 who has outstanding stats, but even JMU is not going the way of VT.

I think these posts telling people to make their decisions as soon as possible are written by the same person who told us not to bring foods that kids might be allergic to to the park.

yes. At this point in the game (seniors considering their options for next year), it's an INDIVIDUAL GAME. I understand that others on the waitlist are hoping and waiting to figure out their plans... but nobody is making decisions just to help the next guy out. It's not about "playing nice." Kids with multiple options will make their decisions when they are good and ready to commit, and not any sooner just to make sure others on the waitlist have less anxiety.

There are times to be generous, to share, to be team players. But, when a senior is trying to decide where to go for the next four year -- that is a time for thinking only of oneself. People on the waitlists can wait until the accepted kids decide in their own due time.

Congratulations to those accepted. Please post your Stats. It's my son's 1st choice for next year. Class of 2024.
