anyone struggling with weight gain?

M/60. I don't feel like I eat much but still can't lose weight - only 5'7" at 182 now. I was at 145 for many years then as I get older slowly gained and can't lose. T1D for last 30 years. Not much exercise other than some yard work when weather is warmer. No hope for me? I'd love to lose at least 20-25lbs.

F/50 Yes and I follow weightwatchers point carefully and exercise daily. I realized I cannot handle as many calories or carbs as I used to, even healthy carbs. I still eat carbs and am not low carb, but I decreased the amount and increased my protein which is leading to some slow weightloss.

Even if you don't need to lose weight, you must exercise-even just a morning walk. It's so essential to health, mood and slowing cognitive decline.

You may want to try a group like weightwatchers to learn about portions and tracking. You may be having more than you think.

Also, are you eating a lot of processed foods? The more whole foods the better. The chemicals in processed foods can cause all sorts of problems.

M/55 - Yes, definitely. Was very active up through my mid-30s, but was forced to cut back due to back problems. Had kids late, in my 40s, and that took its toll on my exercise time. So while I was 165 in my 30s, I shot up to 180-185 in my 40s.

And then the pandemic and advancing middle age took its toll. I am 5' 9" and was around 190 lbs in March 2020. I'm now up to 210 lbs, including 10 lbs that I added since my last physical in May 2022. In addition to lingering back issues I now have hip and foot problems, which limits my long walks in the neighborhood -- which had become my go-to exercise during the pandemic, when I was no longer going to the gym and using the elliptical, the stationary bike and lifting (a little).

I'm spiraling in the wrong direction and am expecting to be told by my doc that I need cholesterol medication, and maybe blood pressure medication too.

It's hard to shed pounds when you can't exercise vigorously, and when you are working a job and caring for a tween and a teen from about 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. I have tried to clean up my diet in fits and starts, but I typically lose my resolve after a few weeks. Working from home has been a blessing in many respects, but it has not been good for the waistline -- too easy to hit the fridge for a snack.

I used to be able to look around and consider myself fitter than most of the people I saw, or at least middle of the road. Now I seldom see people who look heavier on their frame than I do on mine, unless they are really obese. (I'm just barely obese by BMI.) It's depresssing and, at this age, I start to think about how it is going to shorten my life.

I'm in my early 50s and I have been gradually gaining weight as well. I recently started tracking all my food on one of the free apps. It's helped me realize how much I was eating, especially mindlessly eating while watching tv. Also I realize I cannot eat how I used to in my 30s. I always crave something sweet after dinner, but I need to cut dessert out of my diet. I only now have it on a rare special occasion. It's only been about a month that I've been using the app, but weight is slowly starting to go down.

Which app? I’m 53 and I’ve been thin all of my life - until now. It seems if I even look at food, I gain weight. My metabolism is shot.

The one I'm using is called Fat Secret. There are some things I don't like about it but for a free app it's pretty good. It asks you to put in your beginning weight and how much you want to lose in 6 months and then figures out what your daily calorie intake should be
