M/55 - Yes, definitely. Was very active up through my mid-30s, but was forced to cut back due to back problems. Had kids late, in my 40s, and that took its toll on my exercise time. So while I was 165 in my 30s, I shot up to 180-185 in my 40s. And then the pandemic and advancing middle age took its toll. I am 5' 9" and was around 190 lbs in March 2020. I'm now up to 210 lbs, including 10 lbs that I added since my last physical in May 2022. In addition to lingering back issues I now have hip and foot problems, which limits my long walks in the neighborhood -- which had become my go-to exercise during the pandemic, when I was no longer going to the gym and using the elliptical, the stationary bike and lifting (a little). I'm spiraling in the wrong direction and am expecting to be told by my doc that I need cholesterol medication, and maybe blood pressure medication too. It's hard to shed pounds when you can't exercise vigorously, and when you are working a job and caring for a tween and a teen from about 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. I have tried to clean up my diet in fits and starts, but I typically lose my resolve after a few weeks. Working from home has been a blessing in many respects, but it has not been good for the waistline -- too easy to hit the fridge for a snack. I used to be able to look around and consider myself fitter than most of the people I saw, or at least middle of the road. Now I seldom see people who look heavier on their frame than I do on mine, unless they are really obese. (I'm just barely obese by BMI.) It's depresssing and, at this age, I start to think about how it is going to shorten my life.
