S/O Magnet Waitpools and Level One Rejections

Anonymous
A number of us with kids in waitpools got a rejection letter for Level One appeal. Has this happened in past years? We are all unclear whether our kids have been removed from the waitpool or if the letters are just reaffirming the initial decision.

Has anyone received an invitation out of the waitpool for high school yet?

Yeah, we are in 2 wait pools and got rejection letters for both, it is confusing if we are still in the wait pool or our chance is ruled out.

To my knowledge, you can't appeal pool selection this year because it's a random lottery. You can only appeal pool selection. So not clear on what you're saying. If you're appeal was that you felt your child should've been in the pool but was overlooked that's another issue.

can't appeal -> selection from the pool
can appeal -> selection for the pool

We're not talking about MS, this is regarding HS magnet programs.

My child is already in 2 pools, but we went ahead and appealed hoping the chance of acceptance would be greater. But we got email saying it upholds the decision. Are will still in the pool or removed?

Does appealing ever work? I mean it's like saying hey my kid deserves to be admitted. The problem is 400/800 applicants are basically identical on paper. In the end, I don't know what would change anything. New information?

If you type out the exact language of the letter, maybe someone can help you on dcum. As it stands, I have no idea what your question is.

First of all, what exactly did you file an appeal for?

New information or mistakes on the record. But no idea if there's ever an actual reflexive process of how they review applications. I'm guessing not. Personally I think parents should do it to question the process.

The initial letter when they were placed in wait pools stated:

“The records of all students in the wait pools will be automatically reviewed as part of the Level One Appeals process.”

It seems that the appeal process was initiated by virtue of choosing to remain in the wait pool.

So now, they are getting rejections of appeals, with zero mention of whether they are in the wait pool or not in the wait pool any longer. Kind of a mess.

I think though we got the rejection letters, we are still in the wait pool. The email says uphold the decision, that means if we are in the wait pool, are we not staying in the wait pool as per the original decision
