I do hope you are right, and that it’s simply a form letter. However, the sentence right after the one you quoted says:

The committee believes your student’s academic needs will best be met in their assigned high school program.

Which is kind of a kick in the teeth.

Maybe they're using people who appeal as a way to identify the annoying hypercompetitive types whose kids will only make these programs toxic.

Good grief, classic DCUM vitriol. There are lots of good reasons to submit an appeal that has nothing to do with your sad assumptions. Have you ever looked in the mirror and considered you’re the toxic one you’re seemingly so concerned about?

Multiple kids who got rejections from Poolesville yesterday were accepted today. Hope you get good news soon.

This is uncalled for. My child has accepted their spot and is not in wait pool, but there's no reason to be unkind. What's interesting to me is that I've not heard from anyone who got a "yes" from the waitlist. Not on this list, and not from my current 8th grader who had several friends waiting on spots.

At the same time, I know a lot of kids who were lucky enough to receive multiple offers, so believe that many spots will have opened up on the various wait lists. Taken together, this all feels pretty curious.

They invite more students than they have space for, knowing some have multiple programs to choose from and can only accept one. Just because a kid declines one program doesn’t mean there is now a space to fill.
