Passport Renewal

Anonymous
I sent in my passport renewal application on 02/06. The check expedited processing was cashed on 02/14. It's been over 2 weeks and the online status is "Application Status: Not Available."

Anyone else in a similar situation?

I priority mailed mine on valentine's day, and it changed from not available to In Process in less than 5 days.

OP here. I understand that but I would at least expect the status to be updated to "Processing" considering I paid for expedited service.

I tried calling the passport service phone number and my wait time went from 5-7 minutes to over 1 hour.

good luck , it is a nightmare.. Mine was all expedited as well and sent beginning of January .. I travel in 13 days and do not have it and have no clue what to do and no one can help me.

Yes, that function is "broken" was what I was told when I called a few months back. Just assume it is being processed.

One of my kids applied on Feb 15. The other applied February 21. Both were in process as of February 22. The first had a problem with a check and had to return to the post office on Feb 22 with cash so there was a delay with his.

I'm in a similar situation. My child and myself submitted our expedited passport renewals at the post office in mid Feb. The checks were cashed but both our statuses say not available.

In case it helps you, try this: https://passportstatus.state.gov/ to get an application locator number and then call 1-877-487-2778

I mailed mine (non-expedited) in early January and here's my message: The U.S. Department of State has received your application for your passport book on 01/12/2023. We're now reviewing your application and supporting documents. You requested routine service when you applied. Routine service can take 8-11 weeks. Our processing times begin the day we receive your application at a passport agency or center, not the day you mail your application or apply at a local acceptance facility. Your application locator number is ########. If you are traveling within two weeks and have not received your passport, please contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 (or TDD/TTY 1-888-874-7793) with your application locator number.

Good luck and safe travels!

I wouldn't worry about the "Application Status: Not Available" message you are still receiving. I applied for a new passport for my minor DS (and paid for expedited service) on December 27 and the State Department website was still showing me the "Application Status: Not Available" message when I received DS's new passport 12 days later.

Based on lots of other passport-related posts on here, it seems like I applied at the perfect time and hit the sweet spot for extremely short processing times.

If you need the passport soon for upcoming travel, I would do what the PP at 11:07 helpfully suggested. And call the office of your Congressional representative if need be. They routinely help constituents with passport issues. But if you don't have travel fast approaching, I wouldn't get anxious about the "Application Status: Not Available" on the State website. If your check has been cashed, your application has been received.

It's really unfortunate, because when it first opened last summer it seemed really fast and great- people were getting their passports within 2 weeks. Then it seems like something happened with it over the fall and it became really slow/messed up. Probably why they paused the program for now. Sucks for those like you that applied online late in 2022 or early 2023 based on the earlier reports of quicker service.

I went to the website you listed but it did not generate an application locator number.

Note that the top not available refers to a special passport, the regular stays passport is shown below that top box
