How do you get in 10k steps per day?

Anonymous
I've added walking a 3-mile loop for lunch but it's only 5k steps. I don't know when I can get in more steps because I don't want to walk at night (family dinner, kids, a volunteer commitment.) Do I just walk up and down my stairs? Or should I get a treadmill?

10K steps = 4.5 miles. I do that during lunch break, take about an hour and 15 minutes.

I don't.

I walk at a brisk pace, hills, about 5 days per week for 45 minutes on average. I have long legs and long strides and it registers as about 4,000-5,000 steps (for just this walk) most days. Some days it's shorter, some days longer.

This is good for me.

I am 40 though, and need to introduce strength training for my upper body (hills are great for legs/butt/core).

I take a shorter walk at lunch and then a longer walk when I get home (or finish if sworking from home). I start my work day at 6 so I have to befor I start making dinner.

This is part of the reason I go into my office. One day last week I walked 4.5 miles inside the office just by taking random breaks and walking around.

There are some days I walk an hour before work, an hour on my lunch hour, and an hour after work and still don’t hit 10k. But at that point I just spent three hours walking and am pretty sure I’m getting plenty of health benefits.

Are you working at home or in the office? Tell us more about the evening activities.

Dod you measure your stride correctly?
I’m 5’9” and a daily mile and a half is 4k ish.
3 miles should put you in the ballpark of 7-9k steps depending on stride length.

Maybe do not mention this to your manager...

I work a desk job. I find that if i wear my Fitbit all day, i get in 10k steps with an hour or so walk plus doing whatever i normally do in a day.

I don't, that said I work out every day either with weights or pilates/barre. That to me is more important than reaching that phantom 10K steps a day goal. I have a desk job and do my best to stand and walk around during conference calls, but it's not always practical. I do the best I can!

I walk for 45 minutes most days, and that gets me to, or near, 10k (maybe around 8k). I walk around the house to make up the difference.

If it's 11:55 p.m. and I need 123 steps to hit 10K, then I walk up all the stairs in my house and boom, I get my confetti shower. I'm so close to 10k, I am getting my confetti shower. Then I go the bed.

I don't have a "manager." And nobody should feel bad about getting up from their desk. Its healthy and you shouldn't be sitting all day anyhow, for a whole variety of different reasons.
