I read how it’s all self reported information and how colleges claim to have a large diverse population. Is this happening rarely or frequently?
|
I expect frequently. Is it illegal? No. |
If they lie about their race to get a benefit, such as a scholarship or special program, it's called fraud. Yes, it's illegal. |
Is “admission to college” a benefit? |
Almost never. Don't do it. |
Is there DNA testing? |
I wouldn’t fault anyone who does, that’s just this stupid game. |
Everyone does. You should absolutely have your kids do it too. |
I suspect many of the Hispanic check |
The system is failing. I can't really blame individuals playing along with it. |
Nobody gets admitted because of race. It's not a bump. Don't believe it. If there's a toss up between equals and a college realizes their students all are alike, then maybe on occasion given all other things equal someone might get a second look, but all things are equal so it's just the luck of teh draw at that point. Even lying about about race for a scholarship only puts you in the hunt, you're still competing against others on stats. Nobody gets a scholarship just because they are of a certain race, they simply might qualify for it. Even the most diverse colleges fall many percentages points under the representative average of most races, especially Black and Brown. |
Everything you just said is demonstrably false with the Harvard and UNC admissions data that has now been made available in the Supreme Court case |
It’s definitely a bump. My DD’s friend put down native american for race/ethnicity. She also encouraged other kids to lie about race/ethnicity. |
While my former HS friend never admitted to lying on her application, she received a special scholarship for black applicants. She was Latina, not black at all. She was excited at first and then I pointed out that it was fraud and what if the school found out. She clearly hadn’t thought of that. She ultimately declined the scholarship and told them there must have been a mistake on her application. She was lucky they didn’t pull her admission. She had clearly checked a box and applied for a scholarship she wasn’t eligible for. And this was a long time ago. |
Stupidest take on the thread. Just ignore the data if it doesn’t fit your narrative! |
