Better get your gear ready. The just-announced Hogan budget has all sorts of DL provisions. |
It's not sad for PP, it's sad for her kids. What's also sad is how dismissive and even gleeful you seem to be about that. I hope your kids can find someone to teach them remotely about empathy, since it seems like you are unable to do it in person. |
Right, because the DL so great it must have been the kid’s fault. Nope - she was at every meeting, did every crappy Eureka video, watched all the Boeing Benchmark videos, did every optional assignment ... and still nothing. It was terrible. And I do t blame her teacher. It was an awful program because of central office. But even with the best program, lower elementary kids just can’t learn much from DL. |
It's apparent that MCPS knows which way it is headed. |
| I disagree. I think they’re leaning toward hybrid. |
What's even sadder is that 126,000 people have died from this virus and 2.6 million have been infected in less than six months. Schools aren't doing distance learning just to inconvenience you or make your kids sad. |
Oh, I didn’t mean PP’s kids would be sad (my own kids are actually pretty happy not to go to school, at least for now). I meant it’s sad for this whole generation of kids that there is little consideration of the actual costs and benefits of keeping schools closed indefinitely. Little attention is being paid to the pretty unanimous expert assessments that closing schools has minimal benefit for preventing overall deaths. |
This is my problem. So is MCPS just prepared to completely ignore expert advice that not opening schools is the wrong decision? |
DP. I sincerely believe people will protest if schools don't open. The whole point of all this was to make sure the health care system would not be overwhelmed. As long as that is achieved, it means we accomplished all that can be accomplished. At that point we should go on with our lives to prevent all sorts of other problems. The point is not to prevent being infected indefinitely. That's not realistic. |
Whom are you disagreeing? That seems to be what the reports were (hybrid with option of 100% DL). |
In terms of MCPS and innovation, it is the school system that thought they should develop their own curriculum, so they do think outside the box (not necessarily in a good way) on some things. |
The second of my 4 predictions is now also met 3 weeks and 3 days after. When I made these predictions on June 7th, MoCo's three day moving average was 12%. Today it is 5%. I'm still behind my remaining 2 predictions. |
Yes, then the people who worked at MCPS to select the vendor to help develop it went to work for that vendor and got a nice pay raise. It wasn't about innovation, it was about corruption. |
Things have been so depressing lately- please, please riot!! That would be hysterical and we could all use a laugh right now (/s) |
I must admit I was skeptical when I first read your predictions. But accuracy of timing quite impressive so far. |
