Allegedly there are several options for the fall none of which include being back full time?

Anonymous
So a friend shared that she knew they were discussing 2 or 3 scenarios for the fall but none included being back full time in schools. Is there any truth to this? As far as I know there has been no public announcement of this.

It's very hard for me to understand why this would be the case when our numbers are getting consistently better and school is still 3 months away! Not to mention that basically everything else is moving closer and closer to opening in the coming weeks.

There is also even data showing we may not even get the supposed "second wave" we were sure we would definitely get.

I just can't imagine literally everything else being open and schools still being restricted. It just seems like overkill at this point.

Does anyone have any inside info?

No inside info, but until there’s a vaccine, 100% back in the classroom will not happen. There’s just not enough space, teachers or busses. No school system was designed to support the constraints that will be in place until a vaccine is widely available.

Sorry to be a down, I just don’t think it’s going to happen.

Like half the country already announced going back to normal instruction in the fall. And there is no guarantee a vaccine will ever be available so this is just not feasible.

Like half the country is far less densely populated than the DC metro area and likely has capacity in their schools.

I agree that vaccine is the key. Without it, I cannot imagine anyone taking on the responsibility of starting regular school with virus still being present.

Good indication of how people feel is the fact that very few people will send kids to camps this summer. Those camps that are not virtual.

A lot of countries are already planning (some already announced) to start the school year early to make up for the loss instruction. Our stats have improved tremendously, and every day it improves more. I believe schools will open by if they don't, whoever makes that decision will not get my vote in the next election.

Then residents of the DC area are going to leave for places with normally functioning schools.

Places that are less densely populated have far smaller schools. The idea that most schools in other areas have massive excess capacity in schools and on busses is crazy.

They just have different priorities and risk tolerances.

So you are fine if the vaccine takes 5 years then?

Thank goodnesss for the flu vaccine. Now nobody has to worry about getting the flu anymore! Oh wait...

Exactly I just don't see the justification? Like if the numbers are so low and they start virtually again it just seems irresponsible.

Open up school on time and physically in the classroom. Opt out and teach your kid yourself or online if you want. Those options have always been available to you

Especially with everything else in the area open. School will be in person.

Even Fauci said today it’s time to open schools.

MCPS better figure out how to teach more than 49 minutes a day if it fails to to bring children back to brick and mortar schools otherwise we are going to have a whole bunch of poorly educated children.
