Nordictrack customer service - really that bad?

Anonymous
I’m considering buying the Nordictrack 2450. I have read/watched reviews but there are so many complaints about customer service (in addition to complaints the machine itself). The reviews tend to be a couple years old however and I wonder if things have improved, I wasn’t able to find a lot of recent reviews. Anybody has experience? Just worried about being stuck with the machine without being able to fix or return it.

I recently spoke with a salesperson who confirmed Nordictrack was notorious for poor customer service and pointed to the broken NordicTrack machines on the sales floor. He said getting NT repairmen out to fix them has been nearly impossible. He said he’d never buy from NT.

Between the negative online reviews, his professional opinion, and testing out the half broken equipment (fans didn’t work on one machine, key didn’t work on another treadmill), I crossed Nordictrack off my list of contenders.

There are countless disappointed customers writing reviews online.

I bought one a few years ago for a Christmas gift. It has been a great machine and we love it. Customer Service? So bad we had to go to our credit card company to remove a crazy $1,000 charge that showed up on our CC bill for Ifit one year after the purchase. They charged us for Ifit even though we never signed up for that and have no idea what it is. We didn't give them authorization to charge us for that. They stuck wording in the fine print, evidently. The credit card company got them to retract the charge.

Purchased NordicTrack S22I from website. Shipped incorrect configuration, version 1 and not current version 2 depicted when purchased. NordicTrack refused to correct the shipping error, stating that they couldn't control what version was shipped from the warehouse and the only recourse offered was for me to return the bike for an additional $250.00 fee + 10% restocking fee. The bike costs $2,500, so approximately $500.00.. To correct their mistake.

This is why chargebacks exist. Send them an e-mail stating that you haven't received the product that you ordered and they they can pick up the incorrect product at any time at their expense. That's enough evidence that you tried to work with them for amex

I have the 2450 and kinda regret it. I like iFit but delivery was a mess (the first attempt, they said they weren’t paid to do white glove which we’d paid for so we had to wait another week), the belt initially squeaked, the video quality isn’t sharp and the workaround they gave us to boost wifi signal doesn’t work (I doubt that’s actually the problem), and the map my run function has never worked. Calling the 800 number is a waste of time, the wait is an hour, they don’t know what they’re talking about, and calls get dropped with no call backs. Finally I got real help after googling and getting an email address for someone high up who had their assistant respond. They will not send a person to fix things without charging you even when you’re under warranty. Wtf kind of company makes all warranties repairs DIY?

Well, I didn’t cancel and the new 2450 has arrived and is set up.

It’s actually really nice so far-feels like a gym treadmill rather than rickety in the way some home machines can feel. I also love the big screen. (However, it’s brand new so of course it works-I am worried abt the customer services now that I have read up on it but I’m hoping for the best.) if it turns out to be a lemon or we have customer service probs I will come back to this thread to report!

Just chiming in on treadmill issues.

I have a Peloton tread which has been a disaster. We've had it for a year and a half and about 6 months ago it began shutting down randomly. They've replaced the base, sent us a few additional parts, replaced the hand rails, and it still doesn't work. Now they're saying it's out of warranty and they won't replace the entire machine.

So what treadmill should we buy?

We bought one in 2021. It stopped working 3x. Took months to get parts and it was very difficult to get through to customer service. Luckily my husband is handy and was able install the parts himself once they arrived. Otherwise we would have spent an extra few hundred dollars for the service repair. Our warranty is almost up and I’ll definitely have to spend another $190 on the extended warranty bc it’s already started to smell like smoke when the fan is on.

I bought a ProForm on Amazon for $550+installation from Amazon in January 2019. I mostly walk on it, about 10 miles a week, and will run a few miles a week if it's too hot to run outside. It's loud, the tread is off by a centimeter, but it has never broken or needed service. I watch TV while on it so it's nothing fancy but it inclines. That's pretty incredible for such a cheap product.

I just had a horrible experience with them. Placed an order and realized moments after I hit "confirm order" that the address that auto-generated had the wrong street number by one digit but it would have been going down the street so not directly next door. I called them and they said I would have to cancel the order (with a fee) and then replace it. There was no way for them to change on their end even though it wasn't shipping for 10+ days. This was five minutes after I placed the order. I get it was my error but the whole thing was so ridiculous and I had to talk to multiple people from their support team to get to an answer. I did cancel but ended up going with one on Amazon (that I love) for about half the price.
