Spring break

Where are people going for spring break this year? Everything is either super expensive or sold out. Airfare is $$$$. Last year spring break did not align with Easter and we were able to fly to a lovely beach resort for the week. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening this year. Need some suggestions.

We pick smaller cities within driving distance to explore. We did Lancaster, PA. Two years ago, Charlottesville. Last year, Norfolk. This year, Wilmington NC. We get a VRBO or Air BnB and go from there. We don’t always go for an entire week.

We don’t travel over Christmas due to the high prices, so I was sad to have to pay HIGH PRICES to travel for Spring Break. Ugh…why did it have to align with Easter this year already? This is our first (and maybe last) SB trip, so we just tried to find the best deal (an all-inclusive) and used miles for flights thankfully.

I'm a Christian and I don't need the week of Easter off. fcps and surrounding districts should try to all align with the end of the quarter.

Teachers made a huge fuss when spring break was separated from Easter so now we are stuck. We just do driving trips like Philadelphia. Not that exciting but still a little getaway.

Lol. Had nothing to do with the holiday. It was that they had breaks separate from other area counties, so many teachers had to burn all their leave to care for the children who were on a different break.

+ us. I teach in a different district so I took time off to take a trip just like you all take time off work when you vacation with your kids on spring break. The difference is that we have to get subs and parents get upset when their child's teacher isn't there.

IMHO, there should just be a NOVA unified calendar that is set 2-3 years out.

There are a handful of 4 day weekends throughout the various FCPS calendars with early dismissal that could easily be stretched to a 5-6 day trip (especially for young kids). I’ll be using those instead of Spring Break/Christmas.

It was admin and Gatehouse who didn’t fully realize the consequences of going a different week.

Last year, they decided to do the set break for spring break.

This year they kept the same set week but it was coincidental that it’s also the week before Easter so it looks like they solved the problem of Good Friday and aligning with other districts.

But now it looks like they’ve changed their minds (based on survey?) about the set week and are going back to the week before Easter.

Yes because every other district aligns Spring Break with Easter. It makes sense.

We booked Hershey park campground cabin, kids will have fun at both Hershey park/chocolate world and the campground this year. Last year we went to Luray Caverns and those historical place (Monticello, Montpelier etc) during Spring break, also Mount Vernon, colonial Williamsburg, those mini trips are good for short school off days like spring break.

+1, we rented an AirBNB within 4 hours of the house and done local activities.
