maintaining exercise habits

Anonymous
Normally I exercise every morning and try to remain active with walks during the day, and maybe do some yoga at night.
But right now I am sick, I feel like crap. I'd rather sleep in than exercise. I've been doing very very light yoga in the morning just to maintain my routine (and it helps, so I plan to continue that). I still walk - just slowly.

I anticipate I won't feel 100% for at least another week or maybe more if it turns south instead of north. I have a chest cold with a ridiculous cough, possibly bronchitis? I don't have fever, but I do have a headache and my neck / shoulders / body is sore.

Any suggestions on how I can maintain my exercise habit during this time?

Give yourself some grace and time to heal by NOT maintain your exercise habits during this time. Walk when you feel well enough to do so and do some light stretching. Focus on eating nourishing foods, getting plenty of sleep and healing.

I am a die hard fitness person but please rest. It will get worse if you push yourself. I got hit with COVID and RSV in quick succession (thanks, kiddo) and wasn't myself for 3+ weeks

+1

I’ve exercised/played sports daily for over three decades - except for when I’m sick. The rule I’ve followed is that if your symptoms are below the neck (chest cough, body aches, vomiting), you rest. If something like sinus congestion and you feel otherwise fine, work out.

It sounds like you have good habits, OP. They’ll still be there when you feel better. Get well soon!

Op I’m exactly in your situation. It sucks because I missed exercising the first two days of 2023 and I always exercise! I’m giving myself some time to get better. I think I’d be miserable if I exercised now! Give yourself some grace and do something you don’t normally do. I’m going to try to actually read a book!
