The only exercise I like is yoga, need advice.

I’m trying to get fit and toned this year. I just turned 40. I’m 5’4/135lbs/mesomorph body. My ideal weight is 125. I’m starting to do intermittent fasting, a basic 16:8 which will be great for me because I easily eat an extra 500-600 calories between 8-11pm.

The only exercise I actually enjoy and want to do is yoga so I’m going to focus doing that more consistently and do it everyday for 45min to 60 min. I hate strength training. I’m ok with the peloton bike but don’t love it. If I’m just doing yoga and cutting sugars/junk food out can I realistically lose 10 lbs? What else can I add in the jump start my metabolism that would be under 20 min 3-5 days a week? I absolutely hated strength training.

Girl. First of all, that’s vanity weight. Secondly, of course you can lose that this year if you change your diet. The strongest/fittest I’ve been was when I concluded my yoga teacher training - I was doing a lot of yoga and felt (and looked) freaking great.

Can you go for a fast-paced walk at lunch? I think that's what you need to boost your metabolism.

Up your cardio too much and you’ll be starving. But I do agree walking is going to be your best bet to not go too overboard,

I love yoga. Up your yoga routines to be more power vinyasa.

Unless you have a lot of dietary changes you can make, your body might just like this weight. Don’t get too married to numbers. I fluctuate on those last 10 vanity pounds as well. Generally when I’m thinner I’m eating less due to being very strict with diet for some medical reason or just being too stressed or sad to eat.

First of all, losing that weight is diet.

Second, yoga *is* strength training. If you want to get seriously ripped, try a hot power vinyasa class and go 4-5x/week. I promise results.

Are you referring to doing hot yoga then.

Quoting myself in response to the latest question about toning. If you’re not getting toned doing yoga, you’re not doing enough of it or you aren’t doing it right. Full stop.

Yoga wins by far. Ashtanga or rocket.

I’m a yoga teacher and an NASM trainer. You don’t need to do hot yoga unless you just enjoy the heat. The touted benefits are complete bs. And I teach hot yoga. It feels good, but it doesn’t change your practice.

Do a power yoga/vinyasa flow class at least three - four times a week. You’ll see a big difference in tone. I do strength training as well. Cardio is important for your heart and lungs. Not so much for weight loss.

IF is a terrible idea. Just eat healthy foods in moderate proportions. Include lots of protein and cut back on sugars.

Good luck, OP!
