| My picky eater hates most meats and recently developed a dairy intolerance. We are really struggling to find sources of protein for them besides peanut butter and whole wheat products. We’ve tried a few plant based cheeses and they are TERRIBLE- I tried them too and they are gross. And have no protein so not sure what the point is? If you are dairy free please help me. We are all super bummed and stressed about this. |

There is a new plant-based cheese shop in Dupont that I read about.
https://www.washingtonian.com/2022/11/01/dc-vegans-new-cheese-shop-aims-to-change-your-mind-about-vegan-cheese/ Also try to incorporate tofu, tempeh, seitanbeans and lentils into your diet. For soft spreada, ble cheeses, silken tofu based spreads can be delicious and also high in protein. Eggs are also a good source. |
| Siggis plant based yogurt is the best I’ve found. Peach is best flavor for some reason. You can easily mix in a dairy free protein powder or collagen too if you want to increase protein level. |
This. Also quinoa and veggies. I've been non dairy and meat for over 5 years and have not developed a protein deficiency. |
| I like So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt. I only use the vanilla version, so I can't comment on flavors |
+1 The vanilla chai is my fave!! |
| Soy milk is high protein OP. Almond milk is higher in calcium. We do Almond because Calcium is more of what DD is missing than protein. How about eggs? They’re a good protein source as well, you may have to play a bit with how you make them. Mine likes here’s over easy then on a mini bagel. Total protein 11g. Black beans are also s good protein source. |
This! Silk soy milk yogurts are also quite good Other ideas for vegan proteins: -Halvah (and anything made with tahini (hummus) is another protein source.) -Falafel. -salads made with beans and amaranth/buckwheat -chia seed pudding -Plus all those fake meat nuggets and patties. |

Been vegan for more than 15 years. The best cheese for melting on pizza etc is still Follow Your Heart “mozerella” which sadly is becoming difficult to find and no longer exists in the block form it once did. But the shreds are still good melted.
The best for eating raw or like on a sandwich unmelted is Chao slices. I only eat the original or plain ones so I don’t know about some of the other flavors. Yogurts I don’t really eat, but the dairy free “Oui” style yoplait yogurts in the glass jars (the dairy free have a green top) are delicious as a dessert. I don’t really think they have much nutritional value. I’ve had some of the Greek style dairy free yogurts that do have protein and I thought they were okay mixed with some granola or something. |

Violife cheese (shredded melts ok, the taste is a little different but still decent. The slices are good.)
Bobos granola bites are a good vegan snack (probably not a lot of protein but it’s nice to have a snack option). Aldi has some good vegan alternatives too. |
| This is OP - the silk yogurt is the best substitute so far. We’ve tried a couple of the cheeses and they don’t taste good yo us. To be clear this is for my picky elementary school age child; so lentils are probably not going to happen. Not immediately at least. |

Ignore if this isn’t helpful, but is your picky eater intolerant of all dairy products equally? I have a hierarchy of things I can eat — and things I can’t. A glass of milk would be awful, but a small amount of hard-ish cheese (cheddar or block mozzarella) that’s been cooked would be ok, so I don’t have problems with a small slice of pizza, for example. I’m posting this just in case you don’t have to be quite as careful about being dairy free — as much as concerned about the types of dairy products and portion sizes.
For protein, I snack on nuts, like tofu ( especially fried tofu snacks), and eat eggs in some form a few times a week. I also like lentils and hummus, so, maybe hummus and chips and veggies could add some protein. |
| I tried quite a few and the only plant based yogurt I can eat (and actually like) is Nancy's oatmilk, vanilla flavor. You can get them at Mom's Organic Market. |
Giant sells these, also in blueberry and strawberry/banana. Our lactose intolerant daughter likes them |
