Great quote:

"The policing of Black and brown bodies is as old as slavery and colonialism itself. Our bodies have long been regarded as dangerous weapons that lure otherwise faithful white men from their marital beds; our wombs serving as thieves of government checks stolen from more deserving citizens; our curves are dangerous distractions that serve only to pollute the innocent minds of young boys and girls. Where the Black and brown man’s body is a symbol of criminality and violence, our bodies — and how we move and dress them — have historically been labeled as having more sinister and vulgar intentions."

Also:

"It is the kind of rage that easily unites white women with misogyny under the guise of family values and moral preservation and protection. And it is entrenched in racism and cultural ignorance."

If it helps you to sleep at night to categorize all white women who didn't love the Super Bowl performance as racist 'Karens' and 'Beckys', than so be it. You are narrow-minded and ignorant in your stereotyping though. I don't care if it's Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, J-LO, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Brittney Spears, etc. Miley Cyrus was disgusting at the VMA's years ago. Color does not matter at all in this situation to me but I realize some individuals no matter what will always find a way to throw race into it.
Where was the outrage? There was none. Yet, when it's two non-white women we get a 70+ page thread about these two "scantily dressed women".

There was a ton of outrage against Miley Cyrus at the time. You choose to forget because you see everything as racist and unfair to only people of color. To you, all white women are Karens and Beckys are are racist. How narrow minded is that?! You've made up your mind. We see you flinging race into every topic on here but not everything is about race- https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2402415/Miley-Cyrus-VMAs-Parents-label-performance-sexual-exploitation-20-year-old-tried-shed-Disney-image.html

Can you link the 80 pages of DCUM who protested Miley Cyrus?

To be fair, the Miley Cyrus performance being referred to was the VMAs which has a completely different viewing audience than the Super Bowl halftime show. But plenty of people complained about it.

So DCUM did NOT post 80 pages about a white girl who was clearly wasted rubbing up against a man old enough to be her dad, who also was completely wasted. I didn't think so!

(They have both admitted to being completely wasted, btw.)

Miley is just expressing her feminine side, especially when she was with Robin Thicke that one time. It was totally fine.

But Jlo and Shakira? They did something similar, but theirs was much very distasteful and rude and sick and gross.

While we're at it, every time I see a photo of the cheerleaders, I can't believe their little skimpy outfits. I don't expect them to wear long sweats, but do the outfits have to be styled so that their boobs and asses are spilling out everywhere?

Do you freak out and get offended at your body when you get naked and take a shower? Are you ashamed to see your boobs hanging out?

Why does the human body freak you out???

I liked the performance and thought Shakira and JLo gave a great performance. It wasn't shocked because I'm familiar with their style of performing.

But for those who want something a little more "cultured," try this Grammy performance from Sunday--I Sing the Body Electric.

I am SO glad someone mentioned this. I was a high school musical theatre geek back in the day when the original Fame movie came out. I was obsessed with it. Icould not believe they performed "I Sing the Body Electric" at the Grammys. I literally felt like it was a dream, from Camilla Cabello, Cynde Lauper, the awesome guitar by Gary Clark, Jr., to the legendary Misty Copeland. Common! The Debbie Allen Dancers! By the time Ben Platt came out, I was crying. I wasn't familiar with War and Treaty but they were amazing. I loved the performance so much.

PP here. I was a toddler whenever the Fame movie came out, so this was my first time hearing this song. But my 3rd grader and I loved the performance--she plays a string instrument and also loves the Fame TV series, so it was cool to watch the Debbie Allen dancers and everything else. I was surprised to see this kind of performance on the Grammys.

Where in the world is the Super Bowl thought of as a family program.....??!

For children, they can watch the Puppy/Kitty Bowl.

There is a television rating system that should have been used to warn parents about the suggestive content.

Right, because as Americans, we are cool cool cool with the violence that we know leads to debilitating and chronic brain injuries.

But dancing?!?!? NOBODY WARNED US!!!! Where is the manager?

LOL, since when is exotic dancing appropriate for family entertainment? Football and other professional sports have always been something families watch together. The gross grinding and humping was an insult to all of America. There's a time a place for exotic dancing, and the super bowl stage is not it.

I have an issue with the term "exotic dancing". What exactly is "exotic" anyway? It implies anything foreign. Which is problemmatic

Know your audience. In the US on a nationally-televised sporting event, it’s kinda gross.

No, only for you and your fellow pearl clutchers.

I enjoyed 95% of the performance - they are truly impressive performers. Loved the kids. I just didn't like the tongue thing or pole. Which were mildly gross. (Miley is gross trash)

Entertaining yes, empowering no. . but then again neither are social media selfies nor the Bachelor and Bachelorette.

I’ll say it again...how do you explain the numerous beer commercials and the hitting and bashing of skulls as a family event?

This is why I don't get the outrage about JLo and Shakira.
They are actually wearing more than the cheerleaders, who are there to shake their butts for the team at every game.

Yeah, as well as the pp who keeps referring to white women as Karen and Becky, they are racist too. Can you imagine if one started referring to all black women on here as LaToya and Shaniqua. Such a double standard.

I’m a LaToya. Such a beautiful name.

We’re the cheerleaders on tv? I didn’t notice them.

We’re they dancing on poles and touching themselves?

I wonder how many "oh but the children" folks are ok with Kavaugh being on the supreme court?
